I am an old man and haven't really listened to electronic music, the closest maybe is some Gold Panda or Portishead. I really like this song by Tobacco and want to listen to more stuff like it, please tell me some bands I might like that sound like that kind of stuff.

I ran into Fief today, and would like to find something like it: http://fief.bandcamp.com/album/i As a person said in the comments, it's sorta dungeon synth but more like "a bright sunny day than a damp and dark dungeon". The tags aren't helpful, all I'm finding is doom-and-gloom stuff, and that's not my mood right now. Edit: Okay I found this: http://dbfiechter.bandcamp.com/album/inns-and-villages Siivola fucked around with this message at 19:11 on Aug 29, 2016 |

So I found out this weekend that I bloody love Bon Iver. I was sat in a mikkeller bar in Copenhagen drinking some funky sours, and Calgary came on. Floored me. I've listened to all their stuff on Spotify while at work today. Any suggestions for similar folky/poppy/rock stuff?

Does anyone have suggestions of stuff similar to Afterlives? They're a sort of extreme lo-fi melancholy rock (they were on Enemies List, so think similar to HANL) that i've been in love with for years, but I haven't found much similar to it. Here's two of my favs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtR8CdayzVw and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWisgdJRB98

My favorite album is The Ruminant Band, which I would describe as psychadelic folk, very colorful. The albums before it are more Bon Iver-ish, but not as sad.

I'd also recommend Jel and Odd Nosdam. As far as being similar to Tobacco, that's all I've really got. Speaking of electronic music, I recently discovered Clarence Clarity and loved it. I'd love to hear similar stuff.

I recently came across Wes Montgomery and Tal Farlow and I'm looking for more of the same. I guess its basically jazz with the guitar as the lead instrument and backed by organ/keyboard and drums. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdEu0nddyi4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7OBGYdfHIk

May not be the best thread for this. My 10 year old Crosby turntable poo poo itself, but I also knew I needed to get a real set up because the bass on the newest album I bought made the Crosby skip. What is the turntable, amp and speaker set recommended for vinyl?

I'm beginning to explore rap and having a great time, but there is a type I like the most: stuff like Kanye, meaning very produced, songs that are dynamic and surprise you. A song with a few beats that exist mostly to back the lyrics isn't as enjoyable to me. So if I want rap with very dynamic and creative sound, where should I head?

I'm absolutely in love with Baroness lately, everything they've done. Anything similar? I know of Mastodon and don't really like them I just love the melodic parts intertwined with heavier, but still overall a happy feeling.

There's also Kylesa from that same Savannah scene, and Torche if you really want to mix heavy riffs and hooks.

So lately I've been listening to....female fronted European pop/punk/synth or something? I dunno. I've been listening to Florence + the machine's Kiss with a fist, Icona Pop's I love it and La Roux bulletproof. I think a key part of it is the fairly rapid delivery of the lyrics for most of those songs. What else fits that super vague profile?

What nine inch nails album would you recommend to someone who hasn't listened to them since the downward spiral? I've a heard with teeth and the fragile back when they came out but I barely remember them, so those are fair game for recommendations. Everything downward spiral and earlier I listened to about a million times in high school so I'm pretty familiar with them.
