Go broke or go porn.
I'm looking for some new bands not so much exclusively based on their sound but on their versatility and influences. Let me explain: I've been spending the better part of my music-appreciating years listening to the "college rock" bands of the 80s-90s and my favorites have always been the ones who aren't afraid to play music rooted in tradition while still pushing that punk/post-punk boundary. Alas, those days are over.

Still, I have managed to hear one or two bands coming out within the last few years who play genuinely great music that hearkens back to those grand ol' days that make me sound older and older. I'm hoping some of you guys and gals know what I'm talking about..

Two of the bands that have caught my ear are Ted Leo & The Pharmacists and The Reigning Sound. I love the way the bands mix punk and power pop with different genres -- country, folk, what-have-you -- and aren't afraid to pick up an acoustic guitar and actually SING.

All rec's appreciated!
