While recently re-listening to A Perfect Circle's Mer de Noms, I realized that I don't know of any other artist that has a similar sound. That warm, passionate, ethereal sound is what I love and I want more of it. Any recommendations?

I've been listening to Telefon Tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself. It's really grown on me to become one of my favourite albums and it is so different to their others. Problem is I'm really finding it hard to find stuff similar to it. It's been bugging me for months. Closest I can find is some stuff by Junior Boys. I've heard a few people say it's similar to Depeche Mode but it really isn't.

Here are a few tracks:
The Birds - this would probably be the best example of what I'm looking for.
Helen of Troy
You Are the Worst Thing in the World
Immolate Yourself

I love the album dearly, as well.

You might want to try M83's newest album, Saturdays = Youth.

I'm looking to get into mythology-based metal with strong vocals (sans shrieking) along the lines of Symphony X, perhaps also something with a bit more of a folk sound through the use of acoustics. I love the grand scale imagery that the lyrics and classical sound creates and I'm dying for more.

I checked out the new Viking Folk Metal thread and while I really enjoyed the instrumentation of some bands like Ensiferum and Moonsorrow, I just couldn't stand and get past the shrieking and death-growls.

I just caught myself up on a year's worth of posts in this thread and now I have a list of 40+ arists and albums to check out. This thread is incredible!

But unfortunately, I have not found what I was specifically browsing for. I need to find heavy synth-based electronic music that frequently uses arpeggiation and evokes themes and moods of mysterious, almost alien-like qualities.

Music similar to The Knife's album "Silent Shout", including and especially the title track and Austra's self-titled, including the song "Beat and the Pulse".

If it helps, I'm in love with Depeche Mode's mid-80s era (like the b-side "In Your Memory") and anything Björk puts out (like "Army of Me"). In regards to The Knife, I prefer Silent Shout over their older stuff, and Karin Dreijer's Fever Ray material is a big favorite.

EDIT: In fact, anything like what I've posted would be awesome.

I'm looking for something similar to Fever Ray/The Knife/Zola Jesus/Tearist. Electronic music, (preferably) female vocals and a healthy amount of eccentricity.

Funny enough I asked about the same question a month or two ago and got no response. Alot of good suggestions, though.

And while not as weird/self-indulgent as Tearist or some of the other mentioned bands, check out Austra or Grimes. I'll also echo the Björk mention.

OK one more question.

Something similar to the Solaris soundtrack. Very ethereal, orchestral, ambient. Slightly electronic. Very sleepy. This soundtrack was basically perfect for imagining myself floating in space serenely with just a slight undertone of tension. Definitely no vocals necessary or even wanted.

An example:

Anything off the top of anyone's head? I'm not even sure where to begin looking for a genre on this one. It's not ambient in the electronic sense, it's not chillout, not lounge.

Here are a few recommendations I think you might like:

Also there's a fellow goon who posted his music under the moniker Aetherius. His album Paradise Null has become an ambient staple for me. Bandcamp link

I'm not quite sure what that means, but maybe you'll find this to your liking:
Grails, Kammerflimmer Kollektief, Balmorhea, Japancakes, Dirty Three, Crippled Black Phoenix, Valley of Giants.

Wow thank you for these links. These are scratching an itch I didn't know I had, especially Balmorhea. Funny enough their hometown is here in Austin and they're playing a show here in two weeks. Such great timing.

I'm also interested in finding some dark/surreal synth pop similar to The Knife's Silent Shout.

Any recommendations appreciated, thanks!

You might like Austra, Laurel Halo, Grimes, Zola Jesus, iamamiwhoami, Zeigeist, Big Black Delta, Telefon Tel Aviv and/or Charli XCX. There's definitely a few more that I could list but these are mainly up and coming artists to keep a look out for. I hope you like something from this list.
