I've been playing the crap out of the new Caribou album, Swim, trying to get into it. In general I like the song ideas, but I find it really hard to enjoy music a lot when it's not high-energy :/ So basically, any suggestions for peppier stuff in the vein of that album? EDIT: If it helps, I turned the volume to max on that album and it instantly clicked with me. SpiritualDeath fucked around with this message at 07:24 on Apr 23, 2010 |

RentACop posted:I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for some metal bands? I really liked those metalocalypse albums (the second more than the first) and I bought an Amon Amarth cd and that was good too. quote:I really know very little about music in general other than "this song, I like it" so hopefully I haven't just admitted to liking Metal Nickleback or something

Is there any other grindcore similar to Brutal Truth's Need to Control? Specifically I like that I can discern the riffs over the blast beats, and I like that the punk elements are more prevalent in certain parts.

afgrunden posted:I'm looking for what I'd best describe as "literary" pop music with post-punk tendencies, along the lines of Felt or The Smiths. Bands heavy on the shimmering/jangling guitar lines, but not as lyrically simplistic as most 80s indie pop (I'm not looking for, like, The Field Mice). It doesn't have to be from the 80s, but definitely music that owes a lot to that period.

The Units are the best match I know of. Twee Pop is probably the rock/indie pop subgenre with the highest proportion of female vocals, and it's fast-paced and upbeat by design, so I think you would have good luck checking out popular/praised bands from that subgenre. The Tiger Trap song kingcobweb mentioned is part of it, and I'll add these bands for starters Camera Obscura https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3CkfvYMCWM Alvvays https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXu6q-6JKjA Kero Kero Bonito https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Qmwsg2pyEc The Cardigans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpaA163XaQA Heavenly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtjQiooqwsc Dolly Mixture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uogX4qtizaE Talulah Gosh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxY4Q2TmQAw Also Spiderbait isn't really twee but if you like the above stuff you'll probably enjoy at least their Janet English-sung tracks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD16b5wibwQ SpiritualDeath fucked around with this message at 07:40 on May 6, 2021 |

I don't know how much you know, so I'll just post catchy scuzzy metal songs that are pretty well known but not on the A-list tier of the 3 songs you referenced. You may be aware of none or 1 or all of them, either way it never hurts to try Corrosion of Conformity - Albatross Electric Wizard - Dunwich Priestess - Lay Down Baroness - Shock Me Melvins - Honey Bucket Prong - Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck Machine Head - Davidian
