Lately I've been enjoying hardcore punk bands Flipper and Reagan Youth. I've heard a lot of the popular bands in this genre, but these were the only two that I really enjoyed. Can anyone recommend bands similar to them, preferably on the more obscure side of the hardcore punk spectrum?
This may be a little late, but try No Trend.

So if I like Red House Painters and Low, what else should I take a listen to? I've tried a handful of other 'slowcore' bands, but nothing really amazes me like those two. I guess Galaxie 500 is pretty awesome too.
Maybe Gregor Samsa.

Cool.

If you like the shoegazey kind of stuff like My Bloody Valentine, give Bailter Space a go.

If you like them, get Robot World or Tanker

Anything similar to either of those.

All of them.

They literally all sound the same, consist of the same subject matter, have the same song structure. This will probably be the easiest musical quest you have ever endured.

I only heard one of the songs cause the other wasn't available in the UK, but it just sounds like guitar with chorus or delay, or maybe they're running the guitar through two amps.
It's just reverb and a delay, helped by the fact that there's probably a bunch of overdubbing (no sense in playing through 2 amps if you can overdub). Very simple sound to get a guitar to make.

Can someone give me recommendations on early New York punk/new wave stuff? The only bands like this I can think of are Blondie, The Cars, Talking Heads, Ramones, Television, The Voidoids, and Dead Boys. I'd like to have some more of this kind of stuff.
Someone already said it, but get the No New York comp.

James Chance & the Contortions
Teenage Jesus and the Jerks
Mars
DNA

Mars and DNA are great. Really weird bands. Both on that comp. If the opening song by the Contortions doesn't win you over, then I don't know what will.

... and technically the Dead Boys are an Ohio band even though they did move to NYC. :v:

Early Skip James recordings have a sound very similar to this.

Just get some early delta blues. Stuff from the late 20's and 30's.

Anyone got any ideas?
I'd imagine I'm not really out there musically.
Check out the Feederz.

Get their classic, Ever Feel Like Killing Your Boss?. Pretty sure you can download it for free on their website.

I'm looking for really minimal music. Electronic or instrumental or, well, maybe vocal, but I can't imagine it. I love the Boards of Canada, and any atmospheric music- I know there's a lot of it- would be good, but good bedtime sounds would be terrific. :)
Here's a wide range of minimalist stuff I highly suggest. Not all of it is sleepy Boards of Canada, electronic type stuff...

Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports
Arvo Pärt - Für Alina
Tony Conrad with Faust - Outside the Dream Syndicate
Philip Glass - Solo Piano
Steve Reich - Music for 18 Musicians
Boris - Flood
Glenn Branca - The World Upside Down
La Monte Young - A Well Tuned Piano

... but if that's the kind of stuff you want just invest some time into Brian Eno. There are actually 4 albums that are part of the Ambient series, three of them he plays on, the other one he only produced.

My friends Men as Trees! My band used to play with these guys all the time. They were big fans of almost all the bands you mentioned.

You can download their entire discography on their MySpace. I would suggest getting Weltschmertz, the drummer in my band played violin on that album, it kicks a lot of rear end.

They are on hiatus right now, as most of them aren't living anywhere near each other at the moment.

Look into groups that were on Skin Graft and Siltbreeze and you'll surely find something you like.

You forgot Scratch Acid, Butthole Surfers, and the Touch and Go record label
Touch and Go is an awesome label, but dude/lady(?) was interested in noise, can't think of a better place to go than Skin Graft and Siltbreeze. Those labels almost exclusively release experimental/noise related music. Touch and Go is a bit more all over the place, but by all means an incredible label.

I'll second Scratch Acid, great band and Butthole Surfers, well, just stick with the early stuff or maybe just with Locust Abortion Technician. The later stuff isn't worth it, not to mention that the Butthole Surfers are assholes.

Anyway, to add more to the list:

The Shadow Ring
Ruins
Lightning Bolt
Swans

It's a pretty broad area of music with it's roots in punk rock. Some people would simply call Scratch Acid, or Big Black punk bands, which they are, but somewhere along the road, someone decided to call it noise rock, because it wasn't exactly hardcore, and wasn't snotty-mohawk-leather-jacket punk.

I'm looking for some more bluesy stuff to listen to! In terms of the blues, something along the lines of John Lee Hooker and B.B. King, but I'm open to stuff that treads into R&B/Jazz territory. (Ray Charles as the prime example) In terms of blues-rock, modern is what I'm after, like The Whites Stripes' 'De Stijl' and 'Get Behind Me Satan', and The Black Keys' 'Thickfreakness'. Some of Stevie Ray Vaughan's stuff is good, but the more rockabilly stuff he does is exactly what I'm NOT looking for.

I'm also pretty torn about listening to 'Best of' or compilation albums in general, so unless one is really well done, original albums would be the best! Much appreciated in advanced.
Never was fond of B.B. King or John Lee Hooker. I never felt that they never conveyed the sadness that the blues is supposed to convey, it sounds hokey to me. I am a much bigger fan of the more poorly recorded, sad, swampy, kind of stuff. The songs that sound more reminiscent of slave songs.

Son House
Robert Johnson
Lead Belly
Skip James
Mississippi John Hurt
Bessie Smith
Blind Lemon Jefferson

Son House is probably one of my favorite musicians, if you're only going to check out one of them, check him out.
