Cobweb Heart posted:In Higher Learning by Freddie Gibbs, after a few minutes - about 3:30 - the lyrics just completely drop out and leave behind a chilled-out beat with some atmospheric guitars and piano. And - here's the key - there's a bunch of people talking over it, not in a focused spoken word sort of way, but just ambient chatting. Apart from an occasional repetition of the hook, the song forgets it was ever a rap song at all. That's a tough one. This track might fit (mostly the beginning): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYOC_px7oVM

Blurred posted:Really enjoy pieces with lots of field recordings - babbling creeks, rustling leaves, echoing footsteps etc. You may like "Energy Field" by Jana Winderen. It is made of recordings from up north (like Greenland or something). You can hear some wildlife, especially in the first track. The rest is mostly from underwater recordings (that is the "special" feature from this album).

RBA Starblade posted:What should I be looking for to find more songs like this? I usually listen to heavier stuff but I've been finding myself leaning more towards lighter stuff like this and "liquid" DnB, but I'm not really sure where to look. I really like the vocals on the track in particular. I'm also really digging London Elektricity, and wouldn't mind more artists like that, if anyone knows of any. Have you listened to Hundred Waters? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDiAR8kZmHE

Miscellaneous_T posted:Can I get some recommendations for songs that sound similar to Jeff Mills' "The Bells"? I'm really getting into Detroit techno, but a lot of it is so harsh on the ears. What I really like about this song is that all the tones are still mechanical and cold, but they have a softness to the way they hit. Even the 909 drives but doesn't irritate. Check out Blondes. They released a great LP last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H5vNs9Cepw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veNH5_JsYwY

asaf posted:I'm looking for something in the vein of Ratatat to listen to while working. Something to keep my energy up but also nothing with distracting vocals. I haven't looked for new music in a few years and I don't listen to much electronic, so here's what else I have and my notes on them: Air is okay but it can put me to sleep; Daft Punk (excluding Discovery) works but not as well as Ratatat for some reason (I think Ratatat has more of a.. melodic and harmonic component that pleases my neurons); Neu! and Stereolab (not really related to any of these but motorik works for work, although Kraftwerk gets me too spaced out). Justice is a little too spazzy. Julia Kent's faster, more rhythmic songs work OK for a bit of a change in pace.
