Iraff posted:I'd really like to get into some beautiful electronic ambient stuff. Can you recommend the genre staples? Or superb unknowns? Or anything that fits, I suppose. You'd definitely like Eluvium. My favorite album by him is Talk Amongst the Trees and his Travels in Constant EP. Four Tet is also good, although he's more in the electronic side. His album Rounds is superb, and his newest There is Love in You is also really good. Finally, I would recommend Aidan Baker. He is a prolific motherfucker, but to start off, I'd check out The Sea Swells a Bit... and Oneiromancer.

coolbian57 posted:Lately I've really been digging The Flaming Lips, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Shpongle, Yndi Halda, chill bands that are more poignant (well at least for me anyway) that I can listen to with other people and while tripping. This is strange because my true nature is in grindcore and death metal, so this concept of relaxed music is very foreign to me. I especially love the song Do You Realize?? By the lips, this is one of the coolest songs I have ever heard! If anyone has any recommendations for music similar to these bands (any of them, I realize the list I provided is somewhat erratic) it would be much appreciated. The rcommendation thread has never failed me you guys know what the gently caress is up haha! This isn't terribly related to the Flaming Lips, but based on your interests (especially Yndi Halda) you may want to check out post-rock and shoegaze. Here are some albums you can start with: Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place Daturah - Daturah This Will Destroy You - Young Mountain (EP) Hypatia Lake - ...and We Shall Call Him Joseph The Vera Violets - The Last Kiss (EP) Alcest - Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde (Black metal meets shoegaze) And speaking as a fan of metal (more black than death now), I'd say it's perfectly natural to want some contrast in music. drainpipe fucked around with this message at 06:16 on Feb 19, 2010 |

I've been listening to Mojave 3 and Daniel Land & The Modern Painters, and I'm craving more dreampop with a country twang to it. Kind of a specific request, but anyone have any recommendations?

I've been listening to Lady Gaga and Little Boots, and I'm looking for female electropop. Any suggestions? I especially love the thick synth sound so anything in that direction would be great.

Can anyone recommend some uptempo country? I've listened to Ryan Bingham, and I like the playful feel of a lot of his songs.

I've checked these out, too. I really liked La Roux, Ladyhawke, and Florence + The Machine.

Jimmy Jazz posted:Can anyone recommend me some ambient similar to Eno's Ambient 1/Music For Airports? It's a great album to study to, but it's fast becoming overplayed. Steve Roach (Structures from Silence) would be right up your alley. You could also give William Basinski (The Disintegration Loops) a try.

Hung Yuri posted:I love Nadja and I have that already, any others? Are you asking for more Nadja track recommendations, because I got poo poo loads: Numb, Absorbed in You (I actually prefer the original version in the split with Methadrone), The Bungled and the Botched, Bug/Golem... If you're looking for recommendations of Jesu/Nadja-esque acts, then you may like The Angelic Process. Their songs are not that long (8 min songs average), but their sound is very Nadja-esque. If you can stand some black metal, then I'd highly recommend Njiqahdda. I get huge Nadja vibes from them. drainpipe fucked around with this message at 18:31 on Jul 3, 2010 |

I'm looking for something that's similar to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdJX_-xetPE I know I should look at trip-hop, but a lot of it is too uptempo compared to this. By that, I mean most trip-hop I know is more chillout in atmosphere than mournful. I really like the plodding, melancholic beats and that voice. drainpipe fucked around with this message at 20:55 on Dec 19, 2010 |

Friends Are Evil posted:What are some good metallish bands with a shoegazey feel? I'm looking for stuff like Jesu, Alcest, or Nadja. Njiqahdda is what Nadja would sound like if they were a black metal band, including the prolific output. I recommend their album Taegnuub - Ishnji Angma to start off with. Rosetta has a lot of swirling guitars so you may like them. They also have a post-rock aesthetic to them. Check out their album The Galilean Satellites.

Here's another attempt at this. This may be a little specific. I'm looking for something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h54MfBeltME My favorite parts are the dreamy nostalgic atmosphere (this is probably the most important aspect) and the pulsating beats. I like that it's not really dance-y, but more contemplative. Anything like this?
