If anyone has heard DJ Spooky's Songs of a Dead Dreamer, I'd like another ambient album that I can just trip out to that encompasses a lot of emotions. I've already heard Selected Ambient Works before, but I think that Songs of a Dead Dreamer is less minimalistic and repetitive and I like that.

I'm looking for some more explicitly-political soul music along the same lines as Gil Scott-Heron(who is amazing and I can't believe I hadn't heard of him before) and Bobby Womack, or some political electro or older hip-hop such as The Message. Basically any artist that frequently discussed the problems that were present in American cities during the 70's and 80's.

This one is my favorite, "Is This The Future" by the Fatback Band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgUEredXCOY

Marvin Gaye is an obvious suggestion, too:

Some old-school hip hop about stopping violence:

For people who like dance music, I want some 80's disco along the lines of Larry Levan's remixes.

Can anyone recommend me some female rock bands? I've listened to Paramore and I really like them, but I'm looking for more. I like bands like Thrice, Rise Against, etc etc. I'd prefer bands along these lines rather than bands like Kitty and The Donnas.

The Distillers, check them out.

Recommend me something like Architecture in Helsinki's "Places Like This" (which is an awesome album, btw).

Long Beach Dub Allstars are made up by the remnants of Sublime, they're decent. Also, try Dub Congress, they're kind of similar.
