 Welcome to ADTRW, Something Awful's premier anime discussion forum! This is the forum where you will find nearly all anime talk, manga discussion, and associated threads about Japan (and to a lesser extent Asia in general) and its arts. On a good day, you might even find some translation requests or talk about anime-related video games!

Are you here looking for recommendations about what shows you should watch? You may want to take a look at our ADTRWiki for series recommendations. There's even a page specifically for people new to anime. Though, if you do want more insight, go ahead and post but please try to limit the number of useless "WHAT DO I WATCH???" threads in ADTRW.

THE RULES
  1. Read the forum rules! These are in effect at all times in ADTRW.
    There are two small exceptions. Images that are not work-safe may be posted in threads marked NWS. The second exception is the next rule.
  2. No torrents or direct links to material you can either purchase in the US or see on US TV.
    This means that it's ok to have links to anime and manga that is out in Japan right now, but remove your links and don't post new ones once you can get the title in the US. You will be banned if you post links to stuff available in the US. If there is a special case where, for instance, you have an ancient VHS copy of a show that will never again see the light of day, ask a mod first. Please note that this does include online streaming of shows!
  3. Low-content file threads suck and nobody likes them.
    If you're going to have links to downloadable anime in your thread, please make sure there will be actual discussion. This isn't a FILEZ forum. These threads will be gassed and you will probably be put on probation or banned.
  4. LOLICON IS PROHIBITED. NO PEDOPHILE poo poo YOU loving CREEP.
    Yes, you can still post threads about magical girl shows, etc., as long as you don't mention how much you'd like to gently caress the characters. This is creepy as hell and you will end up permabanned!
  5. Buying / selling threads go in SA-Mart.
    There is no arguing around this rule; it came down from on high. If you really want to post a thread advertising your SA-Mart anime sale thread, run it by a moderator before you post it. These threads are often very low-content, so they aren't very useful for ADTRW in general.
  6. Use spoiler tags!
    Spoiler tags must be used when discussing things about of the latest released episode/chapter/volume of a series. You may stop using them after the next new release from this series. If you feel someone has incorrect left spoiler tags out of a post report them!
THE GUIDELINES
Report bad posts!
The moderators can't read every post in every thread, so if you find a post that you feel breaks the rules please report it. If there isn't a problem, nothing will happen. But you too can help keep ADTRW clean!

Don't post like a Japanophile moron.
Nobody cares that you know four words of Japanese from watching so much Urotsukidoji. Don't intersperse stupid Japanese phrases into the stuff you post.
Similarly, stupid Japanese smilies make you look like an inarticulate choad. We have lots of horrible smilies on SA already: use those!

Don't have multiple threads for the same show.
We're not going to ban worn-out threads about shows like FLCL or Evangelion anymore. However, if your thread sucks or is a duplicate of another thread in the live forums, the hammer's coming down on your head. Just look back however pages are active for a thread about the series you want to talk about before posting a thread.

If you're talking about external material (official manga, preview magazines, etc) in an ongoing series' thread, use spoiler tags and label them every time!
This should be obvious. Not everyone watching _____ anime has read the manga/ wants to be spoiled by what's going to happen! Be courteous and use the tags and label them properly as (MANGA SPOILERS) or (MAGAZINE SPOILERS) every time, or if it's a manga, take it to a new thread!
