Looks great. Nice to see a painted AR that isn't sand colored.

Painted guns only look cool when they've had a lot of hard use wear.

I really want to do a foliage green/black scheme on my AR15 and M&P9, but I don't really know where to begin. I've looked at Duracoat, but I hear Krylon is okay? Any advice, other than sanding/degreasing?

Yep, just used krylon. I just degreased it before I painted it and then taped up the trigger and barrel and closed the dust cover. I used a base layer of tan and used strips of handi wipes in various patterns and sprayed on layers of brown, OD green, and a lighter green until I was satisfied. I might add some more brown or maybe some black to make it a bit darker

I'm thinking about grabbing a couple AR lowers, what's the best quality cheap lowers available right now? I know Surplus Arms and Ammo and Aero Precision are both good, but they're OOS on AIM right now.

Now just to wait for this awesome Alabama humidity to let up a bit so I can get good results.

Yeah, watch out for humidity. If you cure it and it's too humid out, you'll end up with a rifle that is sticky in a weird way.

Did Spikes stop making 22lr uppers? I've been considering one but I'm not sure who is good any more. It seems they were all the rage for a while and not so much any more? I mostly want one to shoot at indoor ranges that don't allow .223 and they seem cheaper/more reliable than a 9mm (plus no loving maglocks).I like turtles posted:I'm thinking about grabbing a couple AR lowers, what's the best quality cheap lowers available right now? I imagine JBM Ballistics can help you figure that out, but it depends on what you require. It's pretty easy to figure out when each goes transonic, but if you're looking for a specific BC, velocity, or energy...

Ok, sold my lovely diamondhead sights and now I'm looking a a set of fixed or flip sights to replace them. I'm planning on getting an aimpoint micro h-1 (unless I should be talked out of it). Daniel defense a1.5 fixed front and rears look pretty good for just over $110. Thoughts?

Do you need ones with tritium in them? Do you need ones that are made for not-AR15 height rails? If you answered yes to all of those questions, then those sights are pretty good.

It's going to be foreeeverrrr until I can afford an AR Don't try to do your whole build all at once. It might cost a bit more in the long run, but if you resell parts as you replace them with what you really want, you can get a really reasonable starter AR and then kit it out as you get money. THe upside to this is that you'll have a gun to shoot while you're still putting it together. The last time I priced this poo poo out you could get a very reasonable bare-bones carbine for something like $700-800 if you went cheap on the furniture and sights. We're talking finding a used A2 stock and extension/buffer, whatever used grip you can find, used handguards, and the cheapest carry handle you can find (possibly airsoft grade crap). That will give you a base gun you can gently caress around with until you save up enough for the sights, stock, etc. you want, at which point you can resell all that other cheap crap for 60-70% of what you paid for it. Yes it will cost a bit more in the long run, but I personally think it's worth it to be able to dick around with your rifle sooner rather than later.

Local Walmart has not only the SIG AR "Hunter" rifle for $917, now they have a Remington M4 for $897, and a Colt M4 for $1097.

They're for a gun like the HK416 which have a higher top rail. But yes, Troy folders are some of the best ones out there. You can save your self some cash by getting the non tritium ones unless you really need that.

10.5"-12" second upper w/can. Talk me into a .300 AAC or a .223. Going to have an 'SBR' upper with super short barrel + can, DD quad rail, Aimpoint T1, and a second upper as a lightweight 16" .223 (or 6.5 Grendel, if I can get the parts) unsuppressed with Troy tube and NF 2.5-10x24. Positives for .223: -I can get a 1:7" 10.5" barrel for mad cheap from a hookup. -I already have a suitable can -Ammo is easy and cheap and common between both uppers if (I can't get Grendel parts). No forming/trimming brass, just shoot bulk steel cased. Negatives for .223: -Not very good for killing things from a 10.5" barrel. - I'd have to build the upper myself if I got the cheap barrel I've been offered. Positives for .300 AAC: -I can just get a complete upper already built. - Should be better for killing things from a short barrel out as far as I'm likely to shoot with a 12" barrel and a dot sight. -Might suppress slightly better due to lower muzzle pressure due to better efficiency. Negatives for .300 AAC: - "hahahaha": the likelihood of getting cheap factory loads in NZ - poo poo I spent 3 hours forming and trimming that brass and then I lost it in the grass on the first firing. - Might not kill very well anyway due to low velocities. - Bullets still cost more, even to hand load. - Don't have a suitable suppressor already. (Although I can use my .223 one elsewhere and need to get another anyway.) Does the BATTLECOMP work as far as "not being uncomfortable as all hell to be around?" I want some Grendel parts!!!! That would solve the whole problem sort of.

Just got my replacement red dot from Primary Arms. Their customer service is top-notch. They stuck with me during a move, waiting to ship the replacement until I gave them my new address. My original dot, the MD-06 (removable base model), got water on the inside from a particularly soggy range trip, and the mount would no longer stay closed. I sent them my dot for refurb/replace, and they opted to replace it. I received a phone call from Brett last week, informing me that they were out of the mount that I used, but would have it in a week or two, and gave me the option to upgrade to the American Defense mount, which were coming into stock the next day, so I could get it earlier. I declined, and he asked if I wanted the dot when it came in, before the mount would arrive. I said yes, and it arrived a few days later. It was the MD-10 model, the 4th gen micro dot, with the killflash threading. I didn't think much of it at the time, until I unboxed it again to mess with it, and a killflash popped out. In addition to replacing my dot with a newer one, and shipping me the dot before the mount came in, they also included a killflash for no charge. PA dots might not be the best dots in the world, but their customer service is some of the best in the industry. e/ I just looked online, and the MD-10 isn't even listed on their site yet, just the MD-08
