Its not like its hard to get rid of cursed status though. The only problem is when the item can rust and have that rust affect its performance.

Oh and if you are killed by a V,M,or Z i believe you get a monster of that type instead of a ghost.

For all your price iding needs. Except for sucker pricing. You can apply potions to see if you have oil or acid (both are 250 base price). Oil ignites, no other potion does. Nymphs often drop potions of object detection (50% chance I think?) so if you get a few of the same potions from nymphs you can ID those. Clear potions are always water.

Dip a dagger into potions to check for poly, then dip a unihorn to check for blindness, Hallucination, sickness and confusion. (Sickness becomes Fruit Juice, the rest become water.) Hell, once you have poly id'd and a unihorn you can just quaff potions to find out what they are. Just stand on a burnt elbereth inside of a locked closet and you should be fine from 99% of monsters incase you quaff paralyze.

After 20,000 turns you forget the spell and whenever you cast it, regardless of fail rate it stuns, confuses you or both. This is a lot more useful than you think since if you can read an easy level 1 spellbook early on and have a guaranteed confusion source by the time you reach the points when you need it. The spell shows up in your spellbook with a * next to it.

I usually name my spellbooks with the turn I read them and leave them in a stash.

EDIT:
Spellbooks will eventually blank when read too much, but if the spellbook blanks you are taking far too long for any regular game. Well, assuming you don't polymorph the books. You cast spells by using Z and then choose the letter.

My order for most characters is:
Start -> Sokoban -> Mines -> Mine's End. I sometimes dip into the mines early if I need an altar/want Dwarvish Mitrhil. I rarely ever do Mine's End before Sokoban because of the stupid amounts of ways I can screw up sokoban, even with spoilers and most levels memorized.

This wont take you beyond dlvl 11.

EDIT:
Mine's End is after Minetown. It has a guaranteed luckstone and some other goodies depending on which version you get. Its after some more mine levels, it'll take you to about dlvl 10-11 before Mine's End shows up. This is also where Polymorph traps can spawn, so prepare to break your poo poo and begin to fume like a volcano about to erupt if you don't have Magic Resistance.

Bees and scorpions are poisonous, however they have a 33% and 50% chance to grant poison resistance. Early game the only non poisonous monsters that grant poison resistance are Molds(brown and red), Shriekers (purple F not to be confused with purple molds), and Unicorns. I think blue jellies as well, but they are on the higher end of that scale. I think Centipedes and Garter Snakes do as well, but I'm not positive on them.

Did you have #mb set with a silver saber in slot E? I guess that isn't sufficiently documented.

I've duplicated it twice so far.

1: If you have an item in E and you have the engrave menu open, using ^E will engrave using the item in E.

2: If there are more messages to be scrolled through, it may attempt to engrave with an item in any slot of Elbereth. I don't have enough items or enough messages to test properly test this though.

I do love the Elbereth macro and most of the time it works properly. But I am pretty good at breaking things and I have seen it gently caress up a few times and it has cost me a few characters.

If you play on NAO or have Autopickup exceptions set up on your own PC, it helps a ton when playing Rogues, Rangers or any other class that use missile weapons.

I usually use my pet as a curse tester for armor while I head to sokoban. By that point I usually have an AC worth a drat and a melee weapon for backup. Healers are the exception though.

BACK TO BACK ASCENSIONS. Got my revenge and ascended my Tourist today after dying on Astral. That was the boring -40 AC, Grayswandir/Silver Saber, 250 HP boring astral run.

Today however, I ascended my Athiest, Genoless, Priest. gently caress Atheist Genoless. The last time I did genoless I had a wizard who just smoked the hell outta everything. This priest SUCKED with no good weapons. I wished up the silver spear because I wanted a chance at finishing Gehennom in a reasonable amount of time.

Without nethack.wikia.com and #nethack I wouldn't have ascended. I'm a sucker for dying every 10 seconds, but I never even got past dlvl 4 when I played before I knew of those sources.

Gehennom sucks a ton and I think everyone wishes it could be better. Sporkhack does a pretty good job at it, but I still wish there was more variety in the levels. A mix of mazes, mines and regular rooms at least gives me something different and keeps me on my toes. Plus it feels weird to be diving through the mines without G and h throwing daggers at me every square.

I did something right or something. I ran into like 7 bones files on NAO, most of them being wizards. Apart from meeting a demilich in mine's end I ended up with MR, 2 magic markers (one 0:75 one 0:99), 2 cursed ?oGeno, 2 cursed ?oCharging,plenty of ?oID and ?oEW, buncha junk potions, /oPoly. A quick altar trip later, I'm now entering Sokoban with +6 Cleaver, -27AC, MR and Reflection and =oSlowDigestion. And I still have the 0:99 Magic Marker left.

Gonna try for Wishless Genoless, but we'll see how that goes when I have to deal with liches.

This is a Barbarian, but I keep finding wizard bones. I've done genoless twice, wizard and priest. I've never found h to be a threat ever and I usually genocide L because I like to not deal with their poo poo. I'm not too worried, just found a Valk bones with Speed Boots & Mojo. I'm hoping to find magicbane just to have an athame, although I might just sac for it seeing as how I chose neutral.

EDIT: -31 AC right now and I still haven't bought protection. I wanted to make this game a bit more difficult, but poo poo, I hate not using things.

I ascended with a Silver Spear I wished up. It seemed a lot slower due to no artiweapon, but my previous character was a Tourist #twoweaponing +7 Grayswandir & Silver Saber. Magic Missile did help a ton though, so I highly suggest you get that. The Mitre of Holiness will fix your Pw problems pretty well just don't go balls to the walls the whole ascension run.

If you can survive it, get to the mines early and stock up on daggers. A stack of about 10-12 lasts for a while and you'll be using them until you get the ability to enchant a big stack of darts/arrows. Elbereth if you get cornered or need to get something scared so you can murder it as a Rogue. Although they get lovely gear at start, Orc isn't a bad choice for either class just for the inherent poison resist that can make things difficult. I don't know if you've played a wizard, but play Rogues and Rangers like the early game Wizard and you'll clean house in no time.

Yea, as a Rogue you get backstab extra damage. I think its double and it works with throwing weapons. So those triple thrown daggers pretty much murder the gently caress out of anything. You don't get the bonus damage when you #twoweapon. Rangers are pretty much poo poo out of luck for damage, so try to find some poison arrows quick.

If you are using arrows you want your bow in your primary hand for an extra d2 damage I think? But as a Rogue put something useful in it, like Stormbringer.

Despite my best efforts at killing this healer (putting on an un-ID'd amulet which turned out to be a cursed amulet of restful slumber and becoming a wererat and praying when I had low health so my god healed that instead of my lycanthropy.), I still remain alive.

If that's a bit too much, you could use your pet to kill some dwarves in the mine for a mattock. They're drat heavy though, so I usually try to avoid that.

They also have that whole -1 to hit penalty going for them. But holy poo poo does that weapon hit like a truck. If you can get your hands on one it will last until the castle if you enchant it. Hell, you could probably ascend with it no problem, but have a supply of holy water with you to keep it blessed.

I'm done. I've finished my goal of ascending all 13 classes. It wasn't clean, it wasn't fancy, it wasn't a quick, but its done. Anyone watching my TTYREC for this guy, I know I did plenty of retarded poo poo, like wear that cursed amulet, pick up that loadstone, wear some cursed armor, started fainting during the ascension run, but I still finished it. I am never playing a Healer ever again. And I mean ever.

Not a bug, as long as you know the magic words on the scroll, you can use it. This includes dropping scrolls in shops and having the shopkeeper tell you said words.

Why do you torment me RNG? I'm was trying for a weaponless, wishless, genoless, vegan monk, but I fat fingered a pick axe attempt, so I gave that weaponless conduct up. I hit an old bones file and got my Cloak of Magic Resist, Amulet of Reflection, Vorpal Blade, Bag of Holding and Magic Marker and a ton of food and scrolls.

Now, I found 2 12x5 beehives loaded with jelly. I would be set on food for the rest of the game even without the bones, but I cant eat any of it :argh:. Final count, 48 lumps of royal jelly.

EDIT:
I am retarded and thought, hmm do I still have my conflict ring on as I float over the castle moat? Let me go take it off. Ker-plunk, drown, WELP, time for another one.

(Plus, 11k turns at the castle, not the fastest, but gently caress, still better than what I normally do.
