Lizard Nethack (Or Lizard Slash'EM) used to be my favorite version of the game. I liked that it actually drew in the cave walls when you were walking the tunnels between rooms, rather than just the floor tiles. It made it a bit easier to navigate when the tunnels forked, because you could actually see which directions didn't have walls. As far as I can tell though, Lizard is dead. Is there any other tiled version (I don't want to go as far as Vulture) that has this feature?

EDIT: It looks like Lizard NetHack and Slash'EM are is still up and running. I've been looking for a while now, but I just happened to find it today.

It's kind of weird that Vulture's Eye makes Nethack much less playable.
Yeah. I think it's the diagonal view that does it. If we could get a version of Nethack with Vulture's interface but still having a simpler 2-d top-down perspective (maybe tiles a bit nicer than default tiles but much less so than Vulture's tiles, that would be worth a try.

I wanted to try out Interhack, but my home machine is running Vista 64, not Linux. After some tinkering last night, I ended up playing on Nethack.alt.org, through telnet, through interhack, through Ubuntu, through VirtualBox, on Vista.

Apparently not satisfied that this was needlessly complicated enough, I am now playing using that exact same setup, but across town from another computer using Remote Desktop to connect to my home computer. So add Remote Desktop and XP to that chain.

... Maybe I should just stick with Putty. Too bad, I like the Interhack features, but I'm not going to switch to Linux for it, and have no idea how to compile it to work on Windows.

That is a nice brown for "uncursed" at least.

Sorry about the whole not-working-on-windows thing. All of the core devs are on Linux and OS X so it's kind of hard to make and test a Windows version.
No worries. I spent a chunk of day teaching myself how to compile on Ubuntu just to get this far, since I had never really used Linux before. It was a learning experience.

Portable Ubuntu...
Though I do intend to give this a try. Thanks!
