oxbrain posted:All-pro backers are scary. I've seen drivers get a 30' trailer where I would be nervous putting a 20' box truck. For sure. My Dad was a tree trimmer for 30+ years and he drove a bucket truck with a 10' chipper on it. Tiny yes, but tough as poo poo to keep straight when you have to back up any distance. When you're trimming small dirt roads up in the hills, lots of times, going up backwards was the only way to get in (no turnaround). He used to joke that he's driver more miles in reverse than I've driven forward. InterceptorV8, you never drive on the right coast? I'm curious to what people think of New England roads (and Boston especially )

Out here (Boston) there are a ton of tiny companies doing the NYC - Boston - NYC route, usually from Chinatown to Chinatown. I swear, those drivers have no fear at all of the road. I've seen the two craziest (Fung Wa and Lucky Star) in the far left lane doing 85+ in traffic all the time. I can't imagine the mileage those coaches get while going full tilt boogie down the turnpike.

Muffinpox posted:In MA the EZPass is free and sits up out of the way behind the rear view mirror, I believe it works in all the NE states now too. Yup, FastLane works with all EXPass transponders (but you can't put more money on the prepaid version online, which sucks) and I believe you can put it on your dash, if you don't want it up on the window.

Hah, I know that spot too. There's a Super 88 (chinese grocery store) at the South Bay shopping center around the corner and up the road is a very good aquarium store!

Scrapez posted:What bridge is that in the background? It looks exactly like the old MacArthur Bridge over the Mississippi River in Burlington, Iowa. That bridge used to scare the poo poo out of me as a kid. One of those metal jobbies where you can look right down through the metal grate roadway and see the water below. That's the Tobin Bridge, Rt1 out of Boston when you go north.

Muffinpox posted:Actually I-93 and I-95 were built in 1957 by a post modern artist who wanted traffic patterns to reflect the senseless frustration and violence of the battlefield, and how one conflict in the highway can affect the whole system by backlogging everything. I-90 was built by someone who hates traffic which is why it's not a loving piece of poo poo except by tolls, but you can't really do much about those. Was he French? The 93/95 exit feels French.

I've never driven Further west than Albany, never further South than Baltimore. I've done all my miles exclusively in New England. Edit: Muffin, I was thinking the north 93/95 exits. I actually think the 128/95 split isn't bad (though I hate 128 - nothing like keeping up with traffic going 70 on a two lane divided highway from the 50s)

Muffinpox posted:Storrow drive has a bunch of NO FUCKIN' TRUCKS signs along it and at the entrances because the bridges are 10'8" or something pretty low. Apparently a Bud Lite truck driver must have been blazing or staring at a photo of nutcup draped over the hood of a Petey in denim overalls with the autograph, "keep truckin, your C.Bro, nufcup" and dreaming of the day when he will be a legendary trucker just like nutcup because he nailed a couple of the height warning signs and then got it stuck under a bridge. It's almost September! Time for playing "Count the U-Haul trucks that get stuck on Storrow Drive!"
