I really dont understand why they would do this so suddenly especially considering they just released a new title a few days ago. Oh well I expected this to happen sooner or later nothing good ever lasts .

Lamacq posted:Thing is, I don't have much time for gaming so I'm more interested in games I can complete relatively quickly. Roughly how long does it take to complete a scenario or campaign or whatever in each game? Well in HOMM it really depends on the size of the map and possibly the difficulty you play them on. Small and medium maps can probably be beaten in a few hours though. Campaigns in HOMM are pretty long and would likely require you to play for several days just to beat one campaign but its not like some games where if you save and dont play the game for a month you just feel lost lost, you can pretty easily jump back into a game you haven't touched in awhile.

Really though combat currently is hard because your gear sucks rear end right now itll get better once youve gotten a bit of gold or you could just try power gaming and get into a easy combat and just hold down D will you read a book or something. moot the hopple posted:The trick is to highlight skills only if you are using them. For instance, lockpicking should only be highlighted when you are picking a lock, otherwise it should be turned off. Similarly, you want to only have melee, defense, and maybe crossbow and casting (if you know you'll happen to be using the last two) selected before combat so that those skills have a better chance at improving. It should also be pointed out that casting will only go up (and only affects) if you use spells that require accuracy like flamecast or fetters of rime. Also skill highlighting is very important whenever you run into trainers as the difference between having just one skill (the one they train you in) highlighted is huge like you will gain an extra 5-15 points.

I personally though the Witcher was really good but it is definatly not for everyone, I think the parts it does well are executed really good. But some of its weak points can be a real turn off to players. Bats posted:I think it helped a lot that I really enjoyed the music too. If a game has music that sticks in my mind, chances are, I'm going to play it more often. Heck sometimes I'd just load up The Witcher and leave it at the title screen just to hear that tune pick up. You cant forget that random metal riff that comes outa nowhere during certain boss fights. Ravenger posted:I just hope the disc one is DRM free too - I'd prefer one with all the goodies. I stopped playing a few hours into some swampy area. Just for curiosity's sake, what percent of the way through, roughly, would you say I was? Well the swamp area everyone complains about is act 2 and there are 5 acts plus the epilogue. Acts 4,5 and the epilogue are fairly short compaired to the others so depending on how far you got you were probably about a third of the way through the game.

I'm probably just confusing the order of things in my mind, I'm finding out that I really don't remember much about the game other than its mechanics, and the ridiculous sex card stuff. The detective stuff takes place in act 2. Acts two and three share the same areas along with a few more that open up in act 3 so the swamp is in both of them, you probably just end up spending alot more time in it in act two. (You know I never really hated the swamp section, I mean I get why people dislike it but I dunno it never really bugged me I guess I just like how it looked too much). Danger Mahoney posted:- Second, the best steel sword is in a chest in the chapter 2 swamp. The best silver sword is given to you as a part of the normal story line in chapter 4. There is no need to ever try to get runes or meteorites. That's just more padding. 3rd best actually still that said pretty much all of the meteorite swords are inferior to the one you find in act 2.Anyway I know it is somewhat relevant since it was announced Witcher 2 would be released on GoG but there is a Witcher thread where this kinda stuff would be more appropriate.

At least in 3, if you get stuck in one campaign you can try one of the many others. In HoMM 2 there were only two campaigns and I don't think you could change the difficulty part way through. I thought the opposite actually, I mean Im not the right sort of person to address this because generally I never had trouble doing the single player campaigns in either game but I always felt that the Armageddons blade campaigns were way more challenging than heroes 2 (save probably the last mission of HoMM2 just because the odds are really stacked against you) or the other two H3 games. Oh and changing difficulty only works in Shadow of Death.

Despair thy eyes is the best spell only in so far as the beginning of the game is concerned but yeah in the beginning of the game its gonna be the go to spell. I'd probably say Fetters is the best spell other than the fact that it can miss. Fetters of Rime (no one is immune to this spell), Grief of 1000 nights (better version of Fetters but several things are immune), Unfortunate Flux, Skin of the Dragon and Evil Seek are probably the main useful spells and other than Evil Seek can all be acquired pretty early. Mq posted:Just started Betrayal at Krondor for the first time. Is there anything a new player should know? Talk to Spitzer the gambler and bet 25 or 50 gold, keep talking to him and gambling until you lose, then play the lute. Every time you lose to Spitzer the lute gets "unlocked" basically giving you limitless cash plus the lute in Tanners is bugged so that it always gives you the max or next to max payout. If thats too cheaty for you then in chapter 3 the shop in Romeny jacks up its prices in response to the guild war, this also results in the shop buying items from you at ridiculously high prices like 100 gold for an ordinary broadsword. In chapter 6 there is a well in Elvandar which permently increases your strength for every potion of fadamors formula you dump in it, however GoG uses version 1.02 of the game, in this version the game does not remove the potion from your inventory giving you a limitless supply of strength increases(just make sure you dont raise your strength above 200 because after you hit 255 strength any further increases will cause the numbers to wrap around back to 0).

Hey the way Fiest writes his books you'd think Jimmy was a freaking super hero I'd call him a Mary Sue but frankly there is already another character which more than fits that description, hes even a playable character in the game.Anyway Jame's movement speed of 5 is pretty drat awesome and an effective counter for the poo poo-ton of mages you fight in chapters 5 and 7, because god knows Patrus is probably gonna get himself killed before he can do anything about them. I'd also say its probably just as easy to build up James, really the only advantage Locklear has is that you will probably visit most of the combat trainers with him in your party.
