I haven't had a chance to post anything in some time, so here are a few shots I took at Jazz Fest and Hangout Fest earlier this year. Looking forward to shooting my 4th Voodoo Fest in October! Had another wonderful weekend shooting Voodoo. A bit cold, not the best acts, but there was ton of interesting stuff going on. Soundgarden: Snoop: Raconteurs: Blink 182 TV on the Radio I was also in the pit for that Odd Future gig that's getting national attention. Left Brain smacked a photographer in the pit, and I managed to get a shot of the swipe with (unfortunately) her below and out of the frame.

Nilson posted:I've been following this story since I heard about it. So this idiot actually did take a swipe at her? Yes, I saw him do it with my own two eyes. The publicist is full of poo poo. They also didn't tell us to clear out. They just said they hated photogs and then threw water on the pit, swiped at the woman (didn't seem like a gender thing though - she was just near), and then knocked down a 30 pound tripod in the middle of the pit. That tripod belonged to Voodoo, ironically.

That's a very cool experience, MMD3, and great pictures as always. I had done my research on Odd Future and was anticipating a raucous set -- well, as raucous as you can get in a normally tame photo pit at a festival -- and would have been fine if they had brushed up against photographers while running in the gap to the crowd or something. You know, incidental hits, maybe even a slight push because a slow photographer wouldn't get out the way. I definitely agree, HPL, and stuff like that is fine and to be expected. My main problem is when you go to swipe or hit a photographer. That's intentional, uncalled for, downright aggressive and could cause more extensive damage. I did like that, through all of it, very few photographers stopped shooting until they were out of the pit.

I have a thing where I hate to mess with the 12x8 ratio. Even if I have a mic that can easily be cropped out by using unorthodox dimensions, I absolutely refuse to mess with the dimensions because, to me, it feels kind of like cheating. Is this unreasonable or unwise? I like the composition that Abnegatus got, and it probably wouldn't have been as effective if he kept it to 12x8.

Awesome shots, Butthole. I got the chance to shoot Jay-Z and Kanye West down here in New Orleans. Has anyone else shot these two together on this tour? They stuck us back by the soundboard at the Arena, which ended up being a blessing in disguise. They had two stages, the main stage and a soundboard stage. Jay-Z started on the soundboard stage a good 20-30 feet away -- perfect situation, really -- and Kanye was on the main stage up way high, a good 100-200 feet off the ground. Had to crop to get useable full shots of him. Anyway, it was a fun, challenging set because the crowd was everywhere while we were very limited in where we could go. http://www.flickr.com/photos/48111742@N05/6450861921/in/set-72157628269571409/lightbox/
