Speaking of Blossom, I *love* Steam about 100x more than any song on Joy. http://www.sendspace.com/file/1ggnf2 there's an AUD mp3 (not piracy) for the curious. In other Phish news, my girlfriend and crew are all bailing on me for Superball. Not that I won't go by myself, but even after 5 years of festing I can't say I've ever flown totally solo before... should be interesting

Did the Pine Knob > Blossom > Riverbend run this weekend and both Knob and Blossom tore my face off, especially Blossom. The venue was beautiful, the crowd was on, and the band was absolutely on fire. What a blast this weekend was! Steam is set to be the new set II monster, phanners - bank it!

Check out the Wolfmans > Walk Away from Bethel (night 1, if I recall). It might not be the most brilliant of segues, but it is raw, gritty, and totally old school Phish.

There's a good chance I'll be at the Merriweather show Saturday night. I'm coming from NC, what should I expect? I hear the parking lot is kinda full of cops but once you get inside it's pretty chill. Also, any chance the venue allows post-show camping?

Last night was better but to be honest I think it's time that I take a little break from the band. I find myself thinking they're mailing it in more than I should and I'm not sure if it's them or me. I'm looking for some risk taking and not seeing a lot of it. Bust outs are great and all but it's not why I'm seeing the band.

I was there, and while I'm all for playing very tight, I can't recall any song outside of Sand being stretched out at all, and it was still the shortest Sand I've ever witnessed. They just played way too many songs in a short period of time Set 2: Birds of a Feather, Tweezer > The Horse > Silent in the Morning > Waves > Chalk Dust Torture[3], Rock and Roll -> Albuquerque > Piper > Wading in the Velvet Sea > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan > Suzy Greenberg There's a really good second set in there if you drop one of the horse>silent or wading, and Albuquerque really killed the energy from CDT, R&R and Piper. Then again expecting anything decent from the first night at Merriweather has been a dud three times in a row, which sucks cause its on a Saturday and most working folk can't spring for that Sunday show. edit: My last two shows have been Hartford Night 1 2010 and this, two real duds in a row edit2: and shows that were going decently until being killed by the Horse, seriously gently caress that song

I guess I'm still a Phish noob because I had a blast at the Saturday Merriweather show. Drove 7 hours for the show and don't regret a minute of it. Debating on hitting up the Raleigh show.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying it. I had fun at the show still. And all the Phish first-timers had a great time as well. I just was disappointed with no jamming/drawn out experimenting/funk at all, which is the what makes the band great to me.

Ungratek posted:I saw that on phish.net and the discussion that went along with it. It's incomprehensible to me how someone can defend Alaska in the 2nd set where it was played, but somehow a bunch of them are doing it. Complete and total downer for me that night. I knew I was starting to get burned out right when they started playing it because I was 4th row center pavilion and wanted to just walk out.

The problem (as the graph shows) is it doesn't belong in the first set either. It's boring, it meanders for 10 minutes consistently, it just flat out sucks. Not to mention Ocelot has the same kind of upbeat bounce to it and turns into a jam vehicle and is just a far superior 3.0 song. And Ocelot rarely makes it more than 3 songs into set 1. I'm really glad I didn't go Sunday, that second set is just so aimless

I was glad I didn't stream it either night, to be honest. They're going through the motions guys. It pains me to say it because I really do love the band and their music but they're on cruise control right now. It's been a pretty tough 10 or so show run for them since Blossom. Hopefully they can find their legs again soon.

Hope they're saving it for Watkins Glen. I thought the vibes were all good to start out the tour, with great sets, but it's gone downhill quick eh.

knox posted:Hope they're saving it for Watkins Glen. I thought the vibes were all good to start out the tour, with great sets, but it's gone downhill quick eh. That's been my take on it too. Bethel 1 and 2 had me hopeful with some real nice out of the box playing, then both PNCs pretty much sucked and I was considering just bailing on the Midwest run. At the last second I decided to go and was glad I did afterward. Pine Knob and particularly Blossom were both "IT" shows for me where I could feel that old school crowd -> band -> crowd energy loop where it almost doesn't even matter what they're playing they're playing so well. Cincy just didn't do much for me and it was probably a mixture of me being tired at the end of a long weekend and the band being tired too. They sound tired even on the livephish SBD for that one. MPP 1/2 over the weekend really just kind of sealed the deal for me. I just had this weird vibe like they were going through the motions. Alpharetta is the same deal. Something is weird and it seems I'm not the only one in Phish land who is feeling it. The vibe is being talked about on other boards too. I have tickets to all the UIC shows right now but I'm not sure I'll be in attendance as it stands right now. Very disappointed...

I have tickets for all 3 UIC nights too, and this will be the first time I've seen them 3 days running. I really hope someone just isn't feeling well or something like that and they'll snap out of it, I don't want to see three days of boring shows.

I thought PNC night 1 was so-so, but night 2 I loved. I was entertained, which is all I can really ask for I guess. Night 2 did have Alaska which is when I ran for the bathroom.

Come to think of it, the last two years I saw Phish at Alpine Valley for two day runs and the second nights were always far and above the first. I've only seen them live for Phish 3.0, and only at Alpine, is the 'Second Day Was Better' phenomenon a regular thing for them?

Seems like a coincidence to me, but PNC this year was the first 2 night run I've done in a long time. PNC 1 was just up and down all night. CDT then Roggae then PYITE etc. Plus it had 3 covers (Enough with The Who already), and had a wierd flow. PNC 2 seems way more upbeat from the start, and kept it going almost the whole show. I kind of agree with Goochy, it feels like they are going through the motions and trying to just get to Super Ball.
