I'm trying to think of all the skate docs that paint tony hawk as a huge douchebag. So far I have the gator doc, the tas papas doc, and I think the hosoi doc also has some references to this. Does dog town and z boys mention him at all?

My guess is that's it's way easier just to rehash Madden every year and make huge profits rather than try something a bit different. EA is a pretty terrible publisher. I long for good updated skating, snowboarding and surfing games.

Looking to get a skateboard for cruising around campus. So far I've been using an old skateboard that's been through a couple different people. It's alright but I'd like something with bigger wheels and less rust. What's the consensus here on penny/banana boards? Or should I just invest in a decent longboard? What's a good longboard setup? (6ft 160 pounds)

I'm a similar build and I have just gotten really into riding a pennyboard I've had for a while. I ride it super tight because it takes getting used to the balance and placing your feet but I probably should loosen it a little. The wheels are actually bigger and softer than my other boards so it can tank through pebbles/cracks fairly well. It's tiny enough that I can toss in my backpack and it's a head-turner; people are always complimenting me on it. Good longboard setup is a shortboard

Are Quest boards any good? Seems like a good deal, but I've noticed some retailers always list their prices as a discount on amazon in order to up the appearance of value. Sorta gives me the impression that this might be a board designed to rope in newbies that don't know any better.

The Quest is fine. The bearings are , wheels are alright, trucks are serviceable, and the deck is flexible but mine has yet to break after two seasons. The neighborhood kids have also wailed it down the hill all summer with no issues. If you want nice things or think you will outgrow a beater board, save up for a nicer setup. But I can vouch for it as a generiboard when no fucks are given. Butch Cassidy fucked around with this message at 04:49 on Sep 12, 2015 |

Well for just starting out something for around 60 bucks that won't immediately fall apart is appealing, as long as it isn't a total piece of poo poo. Do you guys think the quest would be the way to go over the penny as a casual college cruiser?

I feel like the extra size/stability of the longboard will be much better if you have to lug around anywhere near as much poo poo as I had to in college, trying to balance a backpack with a laptop, textooks, supplies etc on a penny sounds like a huge pain in the rear end. I can go grocery shopping on my longboard and still ride okay as long as I keep the trip light. It's also stable enough I can slowly roll back home after a few drinks without dying. Maybe meet halfway and get a nickel or one of the quest fishtail cruisers?

I'm not in love with the small size of the penny or anything. Just looking for something that's proven quality wise in that price range. As long as you guys say the Quest boards are fine I'm gonna go with those. Since the the 44 inch jumped up 27 bucks over the past two days I'll look around a little more and make a decision soon. Their 40 inch ones are still hangin around $60 so maybe I'll go with those. EDIT: Went with this. Thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully I'll quit tripping over myself when pushing in a short while. UPDATE: Been a couple days and so far I'm liking the new board. Glides around nicely, helps gets me from place to place a lil bit quicker. Also took my first spill on it last night cruising with some friends. Was going a little faster than I was used to and ran into a surprise curb. Chickened out and jumped off but I couldn't run it out. Damage isn't too bad, and after one of them taught me how to roll over curbs. Apparently my board can handle them a lot better than I thought. I cried of laughter during both of the Tired videos. Quoth the meme, I love/am Tired. I skate only because I'm stubborn, because I'm not on a full set of knees and definitely not in the proper health to dick around on a stupid wooden toy around this m.a.a.d. city. So it's impossible not to identify myself with both videos. They're hilarious in a "laughing with them' kind of way. To pick up skateboarding was the best decision of my life.

They also make some seriously placid deck and shirt designs. I just discovered that I can't push more than a few dozen meters a day. I've rested for days in between but the bit in red just starts caning. I guess I'm cycling to the skate park from now on :-( (edit: both feet!!!) What I don't understand is that Activision could change the font in THPS3's main menu, call it Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, release it, and people would be loving thrilled. why do they consistently go through the effort to make lovely games that nobody wants to play? that being said, new england skating is winding down for the year soon it will have to be a parking garage or an indoor skatepark

Some site did some investigation and found out they lose the license for THPS soon, it was a complete and total cash grab.

With winter looming, I probably picked the worst time to get interested in skating again. When I was a kid, I had a board that ended up getting stolen, but I never learned how to ollie, let alone do anything else. I figured it was because I was an uncoordinated fat nerd at that time, and now I'm a slightly less fat, slightly less uncoordinated nerd who can probably get his feet to cooperate a bit better now. For someone who wants to do some casual street skating, am I just looking for any 50-60 dollar board, or is there something that's a frequent go to for recommendations. I'm gonna do some research on indoor parks for the winter if I do end up going in on this.

Do yourself a favor and spend $100-120 on a decent complete from a local skate shop. How big are your feet?

Nyjah is off DC as of today. I guess his move to Nike is a done deal after all. He's no longer in the DC team site, and apparently has a video part due for midnight (in California?). He's making a truck load of money if true.

That Hall of Meat Instagram makes me realize that I need a helmet once I get past being comfortable pushing and can consistently ollie. There's only like three dudes wearing helmets and a lot of them take some scary head injuries.

I agree with the last two posts so hard The capper on that video is hosed up. On first view the whole thing reminded me a little bit of Sean Malto's Pretty Sweet part where the consistent high level, the angles and the music lull you into not noticing how good it really is. And then the end happens and i peed I assume its never been done but im not hip to such things.

Got a basic longboard off amazon Tuesday and I've already fallen off 5 times and scraped up an elbow pretty decently. The elbow thing is particularly dumb because I figured I wouldn't need the pads today and didn't put them on despite having them handy. Lesson Learned!

Got a set of 10" independent trucks and stuck them on a fat rear end cruiser deck and holy poo poo on a shingle the independents rock. Light years ahead of the Yocaher whatevers that came on the Yocaher longboard.

Is there any reason I should not (carefully) add some wheel wells to this type of deck? I've got the tools to do it right and am thinking I might like to try that instead of downsizing the 70mm wheels that are on it. http://www.amazon.com/Moose-School-Skateboard-Deck-Natural/dp/B003FVFVUU/ Now that I don't have those absurdly stiff and blah yocaher trucks on it I can actually get wheel bite!

I realized on the day before the big snowstorm blew into Chicago that I've been skating with my dominant foot back not forward and have been pushing with my front foot. Switching it around and pushing with my now back foot feels way more natural but now I have to relearn everything from the other side. It wasn't much admittedly, but still.

Have any of you cool dudes ever rupture a disc in your back? I ruptured L4-L5 recently. I'm hopefully going to avoid surgery. I'll save you the short story of details. I'm just wondering if there's any cool dude skaters here who have navigated through a similar injury and made it back to the board.
