Parts Kit posted:Is there any reason I should not (carefully) add some wheel wells to this type of deck? I've got the tools to do it right and am thinking I might like to try that instead of downsizing the 70mm wheels that are on it. If you know how, go for it! Never not DIY if you can, in skateboarding. How would you go about doing yours? I've seen some hilarious poo poo in professional board building settings when it comes to doing wheel wells.

A spindle sander would also be good, but I don't have one of those.

Sweet that's what I want to hear, thanks for the well wishes. I start PT in the pool on Monday. I'm very lucky that I worked at a spine/neurosurgery medical practice for 11 years. I left a couple of years ago. They have PT on site and I basically know everybody.

The flatter the soles are, the better, and it's not good to skate in anything slippery. I've got a helmet now, so now I have no excuse not to start learning tranny. I have a hard time pumping, though. How do you even do that? I have a hard time doing that even in Skate 3, can't get the timing or the hang of it right. I've been taught to do it as if I'm in a swingset. Tomorrow I try again, and I'll remember to keep my trucks Nyjah tight... which is the opposite of what I've been trying to do all this time.

Thanks! DIY continued today with a quick set of 1/2" risers made out of scrap HDPE I had lying around and a set of stainless screws/lock nuts from Lowes to better match the nice shiny Independent trucks on the cruiser. They also contrast nicely against the grip tape which is nifty. Also polished and buffed the gently caress out of the yocaher trucks and between that and not cranking down an ungodly amount on the king pins like whoever assembled the board initially did the resulting setup on the longboard are satisfactory. It'll get another set of 10" Independent trucks later, but having both boards set up and working right is nice. Now to make more time to get down to the local park and practice! If anyone else wants to save a few bucks on hardware the thread spec you need is 8-32 for the screws and nuts that hold the trucks to the deck.

That's gonna be a good one Edit: The intro alone speaks a major truth about nearly every pro skateboarder there is. And the ones it doesn't describe are either obsessed in a non-addict fashion or just pure once-in-a-reality personalities. Edit: Between their hucks and lives the odds that Jim Greco AND Ali B would still be alive are astronomical Intel&Sebastian fucked around with this message at 08:00 on Dec 2, 2015 |

Got a set of 56mm slightly harder wheels to swap with the 70mm longboard wheels on the old school deck, as well as whipping up some 1/8" risers out of more hdpe to swap the 1/2" ones needed to clear the 70mms. Hopefully this will be a bit easier for me to learn on. Gotta get out to a park or something so I can actually have some space.

AVE is SOTY 2015! Well deserved. His Vans was nuts. An inspiration to everyone the wrong side of 30 too (he's 37). Raw files from Propellor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90G9DEL5jkA He also has some footage in the recent FA/Hockey edit which, despite being painfully trendy, is a nice palate-cleanser from the Nyjah / Street League / Red Bull 'BE THE BEST' style of skateboarding that's hard to avoid these days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsWJYm4GlAw

Man bones bearings run way faster than the generics that came on the longboard. I've got rougher surfaces down ok but on smooth concrete it's zero to "oh poo poo" real fast. Had to bail last night after going down a rather shallow concrete slope. Still having fun though.

If you've not put grip tape on a board before get someone to do that and pay attention to what they do so you can do it next time. Then be prepared to be disappointed in your first attempt. Also it's understandable if you get the shop to put the bearings in the wheels because they might have a bearing press which makes it easier. But once you have your first complete board, take it apart and put it back together on rainy days until it's not a thing. Learn how to lever the bearings out of the wheels with the truck axel. It's important that you learn how it all works for your safety as corny as that might sound. It's not complicated.
