I've skated on and off for most of my life, but never really got past ollies and shove-its. I still gently caress around with my short board every once in a while, but I'm a snowboarder at heart, and not having edges fucks with me.

That said, has anyone tried one of these: http://www.freebord.com/main.html

The idea of being able to slide out and do big pow(concrete) slashes is so appealing, but i almost refuse to believe they work. Plus it's a huge investment.

And if these are indeed bullshit, anyone have suggestions on a longboard?

DO NOT use army helmets. They're not designed for absorbing the shock of falls. It will not protect you.

This is possibly the best skateboarding video I've ever seen: http://video.mpora.com/watch/csygIS69R/

Since I'm rapidly running out of snow, I thought I'd give skateboarding another chance.

How is this poo poo this hard? Seriously. I went to my local park for like 30 seconds today (it's really nice: http://www.denverskatepark.com/edwards.html) and it was unbelievably humbling.

A few weeks ago I was spinning on to handrails and hucking myself over 40" jumps, and now I can barely ollie - and sure as poo poo can't ride those pools.

If any of you live in d.c. I'm skating at the little park at 11 th & Q right now. Also: this weather is retarded. Christ it's so hot.

Glad I left DC. It's sunny and 70 out with no humidity in Colorado.

That DC video posted earlier was sick, DC really knows how to hire good videographers/producers. I recommend any of you with an interest in snowboarding look up DC's Mountain Labs videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB4RSKvufak

All that snowboarding during the winter must've helped my skating cause I just picked it back up after a few years and got ollies down again, landed a fakie shove-it, and almost landed a kick flip and varial flip. My board, however, is almost a decade old and pretty hosed. I'm going to get a new one, but I was wondering if width is really all preference or if there's a general trend for someone who wears size 10s.

I'd also like to hear some bearing and wheel(preferable harder) recommendations if someone's got em.

So I went ahead and bought a new short board:

Impulse buy, but I hope it works out. Anyone have some experience with enjoi? I've always loved their clean graphics, and the price seemed right.

It's all coming back to me surprisingly fast. Today I went from landing about 1 in 100 shove-it attempts while not moving to almost 50% while moving. And it's all from realizing the best foot position is just covering the rear-most screws over my front trucks.

My new complete should get here tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to having a board that will roll and pop consistently instead of my haggard-rear end board I've been using.

Can I get some opinions on risers? My new complete just came in and I've ridden it just in the parking lot of the post office, since I had to run to work, but I can already tell there's some wheel bite. Do you think tightening the kingpin would help or should I transfer the 1/8" riser from my old deck? Seems like it couldn't hurt...

I've been skating without risers since I got my deck and seemed to like it, but now I'm re-learning FS180s and noticing a serious problem with wheel bite when I land even a little sketchy, so I'm thinking about throwing the risers on soon.

In other news an edit from my local park made it onto YoBeat(snowboard site): http://www.yobeat.com/2010/07/24/skate-day-saturday-edwrds-park/

I'm shooting some skate stuff to air on the TV channel I work for tomorrow. It's probably going to be edited into a pretty dry package for our morning show and/or some trick tips, but I'll try to piece my own thang together and show you guys.

So I mention some stuff I was shooting a week or two ago. I didn't get to get the trick tips done, but I did finish a piece that's currently airing on my TV station. I don't think any of these kids are over 10, and they're sick. Hopefully I'll be getting the trick tips shot in the next month with Rob, and of course I'll share.

Forgive the slight cheese factor - our audience is tourists.

If you want to see some more legit skating at the same park (Edwards, CO), here's this:

*I had nothing to do with this one.

Man I don't know what I'm gonna do once the snow hits. I guess Snowboard but I can't do that any drat time I want to like I can with longboarding :(. What do you guys usually end up doing?

Skateboarding is my off-season, so I'm gonna shred my loving balls off. Unfortunately it looks like September is the only month this year I'm not going to get to go snowboarding. If you're a student, you should look into discount passes. When I was in college, I paid less than $300 for my season pass.
