Not to necro an old thread, but I just started this game essentially blind. I've played/beaten Dark Souls and DS 2. So I went into the Boletarain Palace, saved this dude in golden armor from some hollows, and then died to falling off the world near the dragon. When I went back in for round two, he was still around, getting his poo poo wrecked by some other hollow. So I took down the hollow, but in the process, took out Ostravus' last bit of HP. Do...do I restart?

As far as I can tell, a bunch of them just pushed him into a corner and wailed on him. I got his key, and opened up the mausoleum, but dude in there looks like he's got a Cloranthy ring or something and while I am reasonably confident in being able to Soul Arrow everything away, some things are a little much. What is the suggested path, like, through the game? Both the skeletons in the Storm Shrine and the Armor Spider are both kicking my rear end.
