I'm nearly done with DeS having played and completed Dark Souls. I prefer the bosses, generally found them more interesting than the DaS ones. The enemies aren't that much harder, and once you realise that Black Phantoms on Pure Black world tendandy are one hit kills that's not much of a problem either. Play in Soul form unless you're looking for help (and for one specific boss) and don't get attached to the Cling Ring (ring that ups your HP) as it's as much of a crutch as the FAP is, if not more. I do tend to use it against bosses because I'm not good enough to avoid getting hit 100% of the time, but otherwise tend to play without.
