The premise is pretty fun - this guy is a high-powered defense attorney who specializes in providing legal counsel and (inevitably) legal defense for his clientele who are all supervillains. One day though, the protagonist is so sick of supervillains being both illogical, uncooperative, and dumb as a box of rocks that he decides "gently caress this, I could do a better job at being a villain than these guys!" He then promptly goes to work bathing ni the blood of heroes and holding the world under his thumb. If you google around I'm sure you can find a few dozen chapters available as audio online, for free.

There was also the "Blackjack" series, about a superdude who slips between lame hero and awesome villain (or was it the other way around, I forget sorry.) It's got a lot of graphic violence along the lines of "oh poo poo, I didn't mean to punch that guy's spinal column out and decapitate the guy behind him with the flying bones" variety. I got them dirt cheap as ebooks from amazon, they were worth the couple bucks they cost in total. The only thing I've heard read by him is The Cobra series by Timothy Zahn. I had no idea Zahn did anything besides Thrawn in SW EU and decided to look into those when I found out. Dunno about the books but the narrator was good.MeatwadIsGod posted:
I don't usually "follow" narrators but one of the few I do was named David Case. I first heard him narrate Les Mis and after that I looked up a bunch of his stuff on Audible. He seemed to be a go-to guy for classic literature, history or, in the case of Hugo's novels, both. I've read a lot of reviews online about people who can't stand him but I loved his way of reading.

I listened to a lot of this when I was driving, so my attention was fairly divided. I came through it OK. I drive for 9-10 hours overnight for work, and so have been spending a lot of time listening to podcasts. Just recently I realized I should stop wasting my time and started looking into audiobooks. My first one was Naked Lunch, which took me a couple of hours to get the hang of but then I really enjoyed, and now I'm listening to Gravity's Rainbow, which is amazing. The writing takes to being read out loud extremely well, and there is something to be said for the audiobook forcing you to continue along when you might have gotten bogged down with the written version.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is always solid. Moon over Morocco if you want to go somewhat vintage. The Big Finish Doctor Who audio plays are also decent...

Welles' performances are some of the best radio ever got. If you're a fan of old time radio, you owe it to yourself to check out Relic Radio. Listening to anything Welles put out and anything in the Suspense and Escape series is the best of radio.

I did that with Abercrombie's "The Heroes". It was recorded by Michael Page, and by the time I got around to listening (this week), Steven Pacey (the first four books) had narrated it too.

So I just now saw that they finally got to releasing new audiobooks of several of Michael Crichton's works. The only versions I ever had of stuff like The Andromeda Strain or Sphere was from Library for the Blind. \ In any event, it's cool to hear Scott Brick reading Sphere. I'll have to look into buying that. But yeah, I'm several months late to this revelation but it's cool to see they have pretty much every novel he ever wrote on Audible now. I really wanted to read his autobiography, "Travels" so I am gonna scoop that one up when I can.
