Picked up The Rules of Supervillainy: The Supervillainy Saga Volume 1 for half price. Remind me to post a list of "ironic/meta superhero fiction" some time.

Only a couple hours in; it's amusing as Hell, and it's narrated by the same guy who did Collision 2012.
Having the same guy who talked about Romney, Santorum, Chris Christie et al. fighting for top dog in The League of Evil White Guys™ adds a note of irony to the entire listening process.
Have you gotten to https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1606433.How_to_Succeed_in_Evil yet? I really enjoyed that one although when I listened to it, it was unfinished.

The premise is pretty fun - this guy is a high-powered defense attorney who specializes in providing legal counsel and (inevitably) legal defense for his clientele who are all supervillains. One day though, the protagonist is so sick of supervillains being both illogical, uncooperative, and dumb as a box of rocks that he decides "gently caress this, I could do a better job at being a villain than these guys!" He then promptly goes to work bathing ni the blood of heroes and holding the world under his thumb.

If you google around I'm sure you can find a few dozen chapters available as audio online, for free.

Yeah I stumbled across it on an iTunes podcast like ten years ago. I eventually came back to it a few years alter and found a kind of kludgy website with all of the episodes in order, and apparently it's a physical/podio book now as well. I recall it losing momentum after a couple dozen chapters but the premise and characterizations were great - just enough slapstick "oh of COURSE he's got a little person as an evil minion!" balanced with, "yeah, I also want to shove a laser up Dr Dinosaur's rear end after he completely hosed up his defense case and ignored my advice to put a roof on his evil lair so flying heroes couldn't just enter at will."

There was also the "Blackjack" series, about a superdude who slips between lame hero and awesome villain (or was it the other way around, I forget sorry.) It's got a lot of graphic violence along the lines of "oh poo poo, I didn't mean to punch that guy's spinal column out and decapitate the guy behind him with the flying bones" variety. I got them dirt cheap as ebooks from amazon, they were worth the couple bucks they cost in total. I don't think Blackjack would make a good audiobook series though because I seem to recall them being quite short, and I always feel ripped off if I can't even get 5 or 6 hours out of a novel in audio form.

While technically audio plays, and not necessarily audio books, Big Finish is having a pretty nice sale through Monday, on the first 50 editions of their classic Doctor Who series. Well worth the money, imo.

The only thing I've heard read by him is The Cobra series by Timothy Zahn. I had no idea Zahn did anything besides Thrawn in SW EU and decided to look into those when I found out. Dunno about the books but the narrator was good.

I don't usually "follow" narrators but one of the few I do was named David Case. I first heard him narrate Les Mis and after that I looked up a bunch of his stuff on Audible. He seemed to be a go-to guy for classic literature, history or, in the case of Hugo's novels, both.

I've read a lot of reviews online about people who can't stand him but I loved his way of reading.

The book is excellent. Alas, the audiobook is drier than a fat woman's heels.

If you want quality story, narration AND length, try 1Q84

About as easy to follow as his others, I guess. I listened to a lot of this when I was driving, so my attention was fairly divided. I came through it OK. I actually READ it a year or so after listening to it, and I don't remember feeling like "Oh, I don't remember that happening".

A lot of things have happened to me over my life.

I drive for 9-10 hours overnight for work, and so have been spending a lot of time listening to podcasts. Just recently I realized I should stop wasting my time and started looking into audiobooks.

My first one was Naked Lunch, which took me a couple of hours to get the hang of but then I really enjoyed, and now I'm listening to Gravity's Rainbow, which is amazing. The writing takes to being read out loud extremely well, and there is something to be said for the audiobook forcing you to continue along when you might have gotten bogged down with the written version.

Quiet, Please is pretty much radio play Twilight Zone before there was a Twilight Zone. The audio quality is kind of rough on some episodes, but they're pretty good overall

Save your Audible credits and go download a podcast audio play, like eos10, Wooden Overcoats, Limetown, or The Light of September. They're as good as any paid Audible plays, and considerably more concise.

It goes without saying....start at the beginning, especially Limetown. Overcoats and eos10 are more episodic, but it's more fun to start at the beginning there as well.

You can indeed. Relic Radio's Orson Welles on the Air has it, along with The Third Man prequel series, The Lives of Harry Lime. Welles' performances are some of the best radio ever got. If you're a fan of old time radio, you owe it to yourself to check out Relic Radio. Listening to anything Welles put out and anything in the Suspense and Escape series is the best of radio.

So I just now saw that they finally got to releasing new audiobooks of several of Michael Crichton's works. The only versions I ever had of stuff like The Andromeda Strain or Sphere was from Library for the Blind. \

In any event, it's cool to hear Scott Brick reading Sphere. I'll have to look into buying that. But yeah, I'm several months late to this revelation but it's cool to see they have pretty much every novel he ever wrote on Audible now. I really wanted to read his autobiography, "Travels" so I am gonna scoop that one up when I can.
