That was actually a decent review. I'm surprised he didn't touch on the Genesis version as well, considering that if you know what you're doing, you can beat it in under 15 minutes.

Speaking of rainbows, he now has up a review of the Terminator 2 games. All I have to say is thank god I was spared a bunch of that misery as a kid.

Oh god, I remember renting Godzilla 2 and Super Godzilla when I was a kid. I remember getting fairly far in G2, even though I knew poo poo about turn-based strategy at the time. I had forgotten entirely about that stupid slot machine gimmick. Super Godzilla I thought was the most random game when I first played it, until years later when I found out that the distance between you and the enemy determined what attack you would pull off. Back then, I'd just mash buttons and pray I could damage race whoever I was fighting.

ZeeBoi posted:It reminds me of when I was also duped into getting the one Dragon's Lair game on Game Boy. All you do is jump around finding lifestones, and you can't attack or anything. It's one gigantic jumping puzzle. I think AVGN actually discussed the gameboy Dragon's Lair game in an earlier review. I don't remember if he brought it up in the same review, but wasn't it just some other gameboy title with the Dragon's Lair license slapped on it?

Obeast posted:Part of me wants James to do a part two of sorts where he talks about those multi-game strategy guides like Mario Mania and the NES Game Atlas, but I dunno if there's really much to talk about them unless a lot of the info was wrong. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him do a lookback on strategy guides in general, even if it's just the Nintendo ones. Some of those were fun to read even if you weren't playing the game, such as the Final Fantasy 3 one that had official artwork laid throughout it. Or if you want to complain about getting stuff wrong, how that same FF3 guide claimed that casting Ultima harmed your own party.

kefkafloyd posted:It was supposed to do that, actually, but they put it on Merton instead for unknown reasons. If you notice that the Magi Master hurts himself when he casts ultima... Huh, interesting. I never noticed that or forgot about it; it's been years since I last played it. Now that you mention it, I don't remember why I did that either.

I've never gotten why Bloodlines gets a bad rap, at least from the people I know. The sound effects do suffer a bit from being on the Genesis, but other than that it's a pretty solid game. Nowhere near being the worst Castlevania title out there.

Spoony's take on that abomination was great, it'll be interesting to see what James does with it.

Can we just agree that skits are inherently dumb regardless of who's doing them? I haven't seen one in any kind of webshow that adds to its entertainment quality.

I don't normally mind the nostalgia critic, but it seems he's been trying to get more extreme with his later videos. He really, really does not do well when he screams. His older videos I thought were more sarcastic and subdued, which I think is his strong point.

Maybe something like "AVGN/TGWTG Megathread?" Pretty much everyone we talk about falls under one of those categories. Or just have someone make a new thread, seeing as how the OP got banned some time ago.

Which I would like since I dig looking at old reel to reel movies and stuff. I'm trying to find the video of him and (Mike?) watching old Looney Tunes shorts on film reels, but I can't seem to find it. While I'll admit Spoony isn't my favorite cup of tea, he just posted a review of the King of Fighters movie. As a fan of the series I'm obligated to watch. EDIT: Oh god... it burns already...

A good poster posted:If James was hurting for material for his video, he should have shown a clip of what happens in that VHS after it first demonstrates the level select code he used, as seen here. Little off-topic perhaps, but what stick was being used in the video? I could've sworn I saw dials on it.
