TheJoker138 posted:To further elaborate on what Almost Smart just said: Edit: The latest Board James is great. I had friends that did that poo poo all the time. Bruce Lee's Game of Death He reviews that movie, its "sequel" and touches on the Bruceploitation genre.

Kickassia trailer Expecting full-on cheese, like that big brawl video. Going to love every second of it. Edit: Oh yeah, Spoony is riffing on another training video.

Speaking of Spoony, he's going to E3 with Angry Joe this year and will be doing a lot of floor coverage. I look forward to his impressions of the games as he posts them. Same with the people over at screwattack (who will be joined by James).

The highlight is when he told the Def Jam game to shut the gently caress up. I don't know why, but that E.T. sign part of the opening always makes me laugh. The face he makes... priceless.

To be fair, the Screwattack videos are actually just James himself doing comments. I'm sure he was under contract to do his AVGN stuff for Gametrailers.

Speaking of Spoony: he had a close encounter of the grenade kind in XCOM: Terrors of the Deep. Laughed himself silly there.

In one of the something con pictures, he posted a picture with his wife, himself and Mike and some celebrity I can't remember. She single-handedly saved the Critic/Nerd brawl shooting time in his basement that one time because none of them knew how to tie a tie.

I didn't even know about this until I checked his site so James goes to Comic-Con for Spike.com.

Meowbot posted:If we are talking about Spoony I agree, he used to be pretty entertaining but now it comes down to he is just a mean dick head. This most recent review isn't even funny it is just shameful how he tries "so hard to be edgy". I'll have to disagree with you there. He's usually like that in his video logs and twitter, but I think his videos are still pretty good. Especially his Ultima ones - which are informative. I like his Final Fantasy X stuff so far too, except the ending of the third (most recent) video.

Really liked the review. I laughed out loud a few times during it. The beginning is especially funny when he was talking about making Jason shoot first and all that.

A lot of his videos are like that. He toned down his anger for a bit but seems to be bringing it back up again. Just isn't the same without the rage-swearing.

Der Shovel posted:Because that's what the idiots kids at Screwattack want. They don't want an in-depth discussion on the themes and inspirations for a particular piece, they want to hear a dude yelling about poo poo pickles and loving a yak's ear with a poo poo covered dildo. It's a character he does in a string of video game videos looking at the crappy games of old. I think of it as a satire that's filled with hyperbole on how a normal person would react to playing something dreadful or encountering an extremely annoying part of a game. Calling people idiots for liking a character he does is a dickish thing to do. That's like calling people who like Robin William's stand-up idiots because you saw and liked his serious role in Dead Poets Society and rather he did that all the time. The Nerd videos are of that type of shtick, except sometimes he does the video in more of a homage or informative tone. Jimbot fucked around with this message at Oct 30, 2010 around 23:47 |

Der Shovel posted:No that's not it at all but thanks for trying. If you seriously think the morons at Screwattack appreciate the AVGN as some kind of satire, you must be pretty loving new on the Internet. Most of his fanbase consists of teenagers who seriously think poo poo covered dildos are the most hilarious thing in the world. No need to get pissy about it. All I'm saying is expecting anything more than that particular type of act from the Nerd is a stupid criticism and calling people who like it idiots is a terrible generalization. It's entertainment and if people enjoy his whole act and have fun with them then that's not for you to judge.

Kieselguhr Kid posted:Y'know, in the GBS thread about internet reviewers they've basically gotten to the point of accusing Spoony of faking his heart condition. The guy always had health problems. Even his earliest videos you could see the drug store of medicine on the desk behind him. It also doesn't help his problem that he seems to eat too much fast food - he put on a few pounds over the years.

No matter what the Nostalgia Critic does, he'll always be aces in my book. I like his videos but it's mainly because of how he quit is job. That was just too awesome.

I finally saw the video that was the influence for the Inspector Gadget how-to video, it was friggan hilarious. On an unrelated note: how about trying some disgusting pizza toppings from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. Nasty stuff, but funny.

Sorry for the thread necromancy but I figured this one was good enough to let everyone know that filming has pretty much started. They got all the casting and pre-production stuff out of the way. He talks about the experience so far and how expensive and crazy everything is. It's pretty great candid chat from a really chill dude. Oh yeah, he said he'll start on some new AVGN episodes in the summer, after he's done with filming stuff for the movie. So that's great news that he'll still do stuff with the character and not end it with the movie.

Mokinokaro posted:He's also been booted off thatguywiththeglasses.com after going on a tirade against most of the producers there. I saw that. He was suspended for being an rear end to all parties then went off on a twitter rant then he got kicked off that site. Man, and I really liked his early stuff too (his Ultima series was pretty decent as well). I guess everyone can't be like James. He didn't do any Nerd video in a while because he spent all the time in California making the Nerd movie. I still get a kick out of his angry nonsense outbursts because that's the character.

He says he really enjoys doing the Nerd stuff, so it's not like a chore for him to do to pay the bills. I still enjoy the shtick after this whole time, so it's not much of a problem for me.
