Looks like a kitten with a cast on its front leg... cats get hurt all the time and are perfectly capable of breaking bones. I had a cat that broke his leg falling out of a window, leaving him to hobble around with a cast on his leg for a few months.

I've never seen a cat do that. However, one cat I had would knock pieces of dry food into her water dish, and then fish them out with her paw and eat them.

Mine put their front paws completely in the food dish while they eat. One of them picks up pieces of food and eats them from his paw. He also used to knock over his water dish every day until we got one that was too heavy for him. The other one walks backwards while he eats, dragging the food dish with him.
