I'm re-playing BG2. Never beat the game, but got pretty drat far before. Is the consensus that the hackiest class is Kensai/Mage (how do you make this build the best, by the way)? I'm basically just looking for the biggest hack build I can get, and running it with maybe one or two other random party members (ideas on those?). Something work better? I'm not looking for some deep challenge, I just want to beat the poo poo out of everything and laugh, without pulling some bullshit like infinite resells and getting every scroll as a mage. MrL_JaKiri posted:Kensai/Mage, Kensai/Thief are both extremely good. Mage/Cleric is really powerful too. Do you get shafted on AC with Kensai/Thief? I was thinking /Mage is for Mage Armor and other protective buffs. Which NPC's should I group up with? I don't care about alignments, but I hate having huge-rear end parties. It's been like six years since I've played this game.

EvilMike posted:With a thief, once you get use any item (and to be fair, this does come very late), your AC will be insane. You will be able to wear armour, and combine this with the kensai's good natural AC and bonuses from dexterity, it's actually one of the highet ACs you can get in the game. How do you properly level this? Start as a Human Kensai and then Multiclass into a thief right away and divide the levels evenly? Is dual-weilding longswords the winner? I don't remember what weapons come around in the game, except that Katanas are hard as hell to find magic ones that aren't like a +1/+2. Does having multiple people in your party divide the amount of XP each gets? So if a quest gives 1000 XP and there are four people in your party, does each get 1000 or 250?

Just to verify: When you dual-class, you can no longer gain levels in your original class, all you get are the abilities you had of that class up until that point (after the +1 to your dual-class)? So a Mage (for example) going to a Fighter would no longer gain levels as a Mage, meaning no more additional spell slots and such?

So what party NPC's do you guys suggest for a minimal party run? I was thinking 1-2 NPC's, with me as a Fighter/assbeater.

The Lone Badger posted:You can start the quest-chain that leads to his recruitment immediately, although one of the fights in it will be fairly tricky if you can't cast Breach yet. The only advantage you have in that fight is that you get the first strike, before he puts up any of his defenses. If you can hit pretty hard and then just outlast, you'll be able to take him down. You'll have to be able to take down two golems too, although I think you can pop an invisibility potion or spell and run past them instead. He didn't do much to me except hit me with a death spell, which you can counter with a cleric ward. Other than that one fight, every other part of the chain is easy as hell. The fight took me about four resets as a Kensai/Thief, with just myself and Viconia in my party. PRADA SLUT fucked around with this message at May 24, 2009 around 10:04 |

Couple BG2 item questions: I've got the damned acorns from the dryads in the Irenecus dungeon, but I forget how to get to the windswept hills or whatever to turn the fuckers in. I've done Nalia's line, done Trademeet, the druid grove, that other city with the werewolf attack and the haunted forest (the one with the black dragon in the dungeon). Where the hell is it? Also, what am I supposed to be doing with all this poo poo like dragon scales, horns (from that expansion tower at the bottom of the map), silver pantaloons? I presume they're for item creation. I gave my money to Bodhi, but haven't embarked yet. Are those items useful to me at this point? Where's a safe place to store items like that before I head out to Spellhold? I don't want to carry all these bullshit items like Pomell Jewel of the Equalizer and Silver Pantaloons while I'm there. I've been putting all that poo poo in the upstairs room in the Thieves Guild, but I'm worried about losing the guild if I don't make it back in time (I doubt I can make it all the way through Spellhold + Underdark in 5 days). So I just cleared the part with the werewolf attacks, but I can't remember how to finish two quests there. One, where do you find the Mimic Blood? And two, what do you do with the kids you give swords and ale to? Where do they end up? What level do thieves get UAI? PRADA SLUT fucked around with this message at May 29, 2009 around 18:16 |

Where's the link to the patch that removes the XP cap? Also, one question on thieves. What's the maximum needed in any skill, like pick lock, detect traps, etc? I'm rolling Kensai/Thief in a party of 3, so I'm getting a shitload of XP, and I don't want it to go to waste if I'm overranking any of my thief skills.

Is there a mod that lets me make my NPC characters as if they were freshly-rolled when I add them to my party? I want Viconia to be a Fighter/Cleric dual-class, but I don't want to gently caress up the stats or anything by manually adjusting it after I get her in the party (with Shadowkeeper, like forcing a change in class and level by manually entering numbers). Is there a way to set what her class and stats are before I get her in the party? I have Level 1 NPC's, so whenever someone joins they ding to my level, but it still doesn't change their class or stats. PRADA SLUT fucked around with this message at Jun 10, 2009 around 22:55 |

ShiningForceHero posted:Level 1 NPCs also lets you choose their class, including all class mods you have installed. It's really quite an awesome mod. Yeah, but what I'm saying is, that their THAC0 and such will be different because of the class change. Edit: Wait, I was thinking Shadowkeeper. I'll re-run L1NPC's.

Devil Wears Wings posted:This is exactly what I did with my current main. As I recall, I went through the opening dungeon, did Aerie's circus tent quest, did Haer'Dalis' quests, then started to do the Unseeing Eye quest, and somewhere in that quest she got her Kensai skills back. You can get them back really fast by just reading a bunch of scrolls then doing quests that take no combat, like the Doll and the Paladin in the graveyard and talking to people for the Thieves Guild. Does anyone have any tips for defeating Nalmissra & Co (Watchers Keep Lv5)? I have just a Kensai/Mage at 9/25 (with katanas) and Viconia at 27 (I'm trying to do a solo-esque run). I've completed every quest/sideline you can before embarking to rescue Imoen (so I haven't been to Spellhold yet or anything), I have Wish and Limited Wish, Dragons Breath, etc (but no Time Stop). I have Oprah money so I can buy other scrolls from Ribald if needed. I've tried to use a Magic Immunity Scroll but the Melee easily take me out without buffs, and I'm attempting to finish Watcher's Keep before Spellhold (but if it'll just be way too hard I can come back to it later). Is there a way to cheese Demogorgon with a "solo" Kensai/Mage (and a Viconia)? I tried to aggro then shoot Death Fogs out of range, but he's resisted all my AoE.

Factor_VIII posted:Have you tried filling a Spell Trigger with Lower Resistance and hitting him with it to drop his magic resistance? I made a trigger with Lower Resist, Breach, and Pierce Magic, and I hit him with it as soon as his contingencies fired. He still resists. It seems like even with multiple layers of cloud kills and death fogs, he only takes damage from probably 1 out of 50 ticks. PRADA SLUT fucked around with this message at Apr 23, 2012 around 23:31 |

Even with Lower Resists and Warding Whip, I can't get cloud spells to do any damage to him. Does Lower Resist stack? Also, are you supposed to be able to backstab with a Quarterstaff?
