Yeah trying to be cross-platform here for all my systems. Not to mention you're right its overkill.

I mean i suppose I could setup a webserver on my NAT with some downloads to a couple SSHFS type programs and just require myself to download the SSHFS on my computers I want to use it with.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but SSHFS is incredibly slow and unreliable on the Windows systems I've used it on.

why hasn't anyone made a custom linux CD that boots and automatically scans a computer for porno or cookies on dating websites, poo poo like that. advertise it on late night tv towards jealous girl/boyfriends or husbands/wives who want to snoop on their partner's computers. advertise it bypasses windows passwords, and make millions.

welp theres my million dollar idea, somebody steal it.

it's a little early to speculate about oak trail but i would say no, at least not under windows. i'm skeptical of both intel's ability to scale performance upward to usable levels with Atom, as well as its ability to continue shrinking it down to maintain a power efficient performance advantage in the tablet/smartphone space compared to Cortex A9-based ARM solutions, especially dual-core offerings.

Does anyone know of a utility that can report back on whether the BIOS on a PC is password protected or not? This would be for current Dells. Need to know for auditing, and I was hoping that wmic could report it, but no luck there. We're trying to avoid rebooting to check.

OK, if you plug a hidef monitor in to a pc va hdmi windows will know what model TV it is in the display properties screen, yeah?

If I split the hdmi cable with a powered splitter to two different hd displays (a flatscreen and a projector) will there be any signal freakout of trying to report 2 different device names at once?

depends on the splitter you're using. according to a forum i found with google, at least sometimes the splitter only passes along the info of the first monitor.
