Abel Wingnut posted:How did you do this? email a cancellation request to studentwindows.us@digitalriver.com with your order number Ok, I called Microsoft back, and this time I pressed "7" (Questions about Windows 7) then "1" (Buy Windows 7 Now). Unlike when I pressed "1" at the start menu, I had 0 wait time, and I got the full edition of Professional for $38 shipped with both 64 and 32 bit disks. So to people who are going to call Microsoft directly, press "7" on the start menu for both speedy service and a proper quote/a better deal.

Within 1 week, I was calling Compaq and bugging them for another solution. Fortunately, it was also shortly before the XP era. I spent 2 weeks on ME before I hooked myself up with some sweet FCKGW action (I bought it as soon as I could get it, btw).

Not that its a huge issue, I just think it was a weird thing to boast about in a review. Back on topic, I hope after I'm done moving house in a week I'll have money to grab this and replace the RC version. Been running the RC since it came out and have had 0 issues with it, so I'd say I'm definitely sold.

Honestly just get a copy of Win 7 off a torrent, check the hashes, and install it. All your technically waiting for is the key.

So has anybody attempted this "upgrade from the RC" trick with any issues? I know it's preferable to go clean install from the RC, but I've been running it exclusively on a new computer for months, and there are some programs that will be a pain in the rear end to reinstall (downloaded games, etc.)

Upgrade takes a lot longer than a fresh install, I think it's just the fact that it checks every installed program or something, since it says something of the sort.

Correct, I'm assuming they are just going to send the box you'd buy at retail, which has both 64 and 32 bit disks. That's how my Vista Ultimate came, so I'm sure this will be the same.

I got an upgrade copy of home premium, with an activated copy of xp still on my computer. Is my home premium key marked as an upgrade or if I want to reinstall down the line, could I just use a full install copy from a friend with my key to avoid having to install two operating systems in the future?

Just FYI, if your desktop is running Ultimate or any version higher than the version you receive from the college deal (Home or Pro), then you can't use that upgrade on it. ie, you can't go from Ultimate to Pro or Pro to Home, etc. I'm sure you know that, but until I read the first post in this thread I didn't know that, luckily I got Ultimate 7 to upgrade my Ultimate Vista from technet. Are you still able to use an upgrade license to do a clean install? With XP you just had to feed it a Win95/98 disc at some point in the install process. Is there some equivalent of that here?
