Ah okay. I was confused since the Windows website makes it seem like the virtual PC and XP mode are the same thing. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vi...pc/default.aspx How do you get 95 these days? Is it still sold or what?

Cough.
Does Win95 work fully with VPC 2007?

Will formating and putting Win7 on a partition of a newer terabyte drive increase spead over having it on an older 350 GB drive? I mean noticeably.

I already have 7 installed, and I want to set up a duel boot with XP to play some older games (XP Mode doesn't cut it, I tried.). As far as I know XPs boot loader will override 7s if I install XP after 7, is there any way around this?

OEM is linked, by serial, to a motherboard.

So I get MSDN-AA access through my school, which is awesome and allows me to gently caress around with all sorts of stuff I could never hope to pay for.
Question: If I put Server 08R2 Datacenter on a computer, will it still be able to do basic poo poo like print server-ing?
I just want to have a datacenter print server.

I decided to set up a home server, using my MSDN-AA resources (and for the experience), running Server 2008 R2 DATACENTER (Datacenter because it sounds cool).
I'm having trouble setting up remote desktop and shares, for some reason even though remote desktop is enabled and has an exception in the firewall, nothing can connect. Another oddity is that shares on one drive cannot be read by any computer that connects to the network wirelessly, even though shares on others drives can be connected to fine.
Help with either problem would be nice.

Are all the desktops on the same workgroup? Also when you rdp in you might want to specify pc name. By which I mean dont rdp as administrator, rdp as pcname\administrator

yes, and I tried that as both server\admin and ~pcname~\admin, it's still not working.

Check the security event log on the target system, there may be useful info there.

Not wanting to seem daft, but where would I find that? Googling gave me a few dozen different answers.
Also I turned off the firewall just to see if that was it, and it's still not working.

Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer. Or just type event viewer in the search bar; probably faster that way. Expand Windows Logs on the left, select Security, and see if there are any relevant events at the time when you are trying to connect.

I see a few "Logon" and "Special Logon" events at around those times, but reading the events I don't see what the problem is. They come out as "auditing successful"

So I replaced the 2008 R2 server with a 2003 R2 server, thinking that would solve this dumb RDP problem, and because it would also solve the problem of having legacy computers connect to shares on it without needing a VM.
Except now my Windows 7 computers can't connect to it at all, uggh. Help?
E: Okay, I found instructions for a registry edit that makes it work, and it does, but this didn't solve my RDP problem uggggghhhh

So I'm running a computer with Server 2003 Ent (MSDN-AA key) at home, as a home/media server. It works pretty well except for some reason I can't remote in, not even on the local network.
Remote Desktop is enabled, and I've even tried it with the firewall down on both ends and I still can't get in, what am I missing?

What happens when you try? Does the client fail to connect to the remote machine? Connects, but you can't log on?

It doesn't connect it fails with a generic error and tells me it's either off or RDP is off. I can access shares and view it on the network, but RDP is screwing up for some reason.
