poo poo, if the worst thing about 7 is lack of screensavers (), then MS did a pretty good job.

I'm running 7 Home Premium Final (legit key from msdn) and so far everything works great. Only issues have been daemon tools and peer guardian. Although a new ver of DT pro supposedly supports 7, but I havent tried it yet,

Will programs not specifically made for a 64 bit OS still work, like some kind of compatibility mode or something? Forgive my ignorance here, please. All 32 bit programs will work fine. It will install into \Program files(32)\ or something along those lines. I'm running Win7 64 and so far no troubles with 32 bit programs. The only program I know offhand is peerguardian, which if you google has some hacks but I hosed my poo poo up when I tried em.

Do I need to install any codec packs on win7? I mainly am concerned with streaming to my 360. So far divx and xvid natively work in media player.

Cisco is phasing out the IPSEC client. Their solution is the AnyConnect client which is SSL only. They now require you to purchase SSL cals for their PIX to use VPN, where as before IPSEC was "free". The AnyConnect client works in 7x64, for I use it daily.

That was an example. The server and the share exists, it works perfectly fine on all other systems, just immediately crashes win7 explorer. Odd poo poo. Maybe it's the lovely Novell Client - 7 isn't supported yet.

Does anyone have a good alternative to VirtualWin that works well in 7? VirtualWin installs but it seems when I designate an app to one desktop, it shows it across all desktops. It's pretty random, only some apps do it, not all, but enough to make it frustrating.

revolther posted:The critical question I have when looking at virtual desktops for win7 is do they support different pinned items on each taskbar. Actually, VirtualWin works great with the new beta. Just took some digging to find. Loving it again. But no pinned items on each taskbar. As for the dude with mIRC issues. I'm running mIRC on 2 of my Windows 7, 64 bit boxes - no problems what so ever. I'd run it in admin mode and see what happens.

Is it a compressed file like a zip or an iso? If so, config your virus scanner to skip over those files or not scan the contents. It might be scanning it while trying to copy to the jump drive and massively slowing it down.

Sometimes FireFox uses 25% of my CPU resources (I guess it's using one out of four) and it either comes to a crawl or just stop responding. Googling for stuff didn't come up with anything. This started happening when I switched to 7 64-bit as well. I run the 3.6 beta and it works pretty well in 7 64-bit.

Parachute Underwear posted:I'm not sure if vanilla Windows 7 codecs let you do this, but with Shark007's Windows 7 codecs I can stream .mkv files just by setting up my shared folders in Media Center and accessing my movies from the 360. Really? I downloaded his general codecs and his x64 addon codecs. I shared the folder but the 360 tells me there are no videos in them.
