chizad posted:I don't really use gadgets in 7 anymore, and only ever used a handful in Vista. When I first started using Vista, and then again when I upgraded to 7, I spent a few hours looking at all the gadgets out there and just didn't find much that was very useful to me. Plus, a lot of the ones I tried either sucked in some way (features/interface/etc) or were buggy or had memory leaks or something like that. Yea, most of the gadgets in Vista/7 are trash. Which is kind of disappointing because Expose' for OS X has hundreds of very useful and well designed ones.

Okay, so I order Windows 7 through my school and got a key but for whatever reason I can't figure out what version I got besides Windows 7 Profressional - I'm guessing this is the business edition? EDIT - Nevermind, it's just Windows 7 Professional. Tab8715 fucked around with this message at Feb 2, 2010 around 16:50 |

Has anyone ever made a widget? I was going through the Widget API and it seems simple enough, I'd like a widget that grabs information from the GPU and shows GPU Usage and Memory Usage along with a brief history, just like the ones for Network and CPU Activity. My only problem is how to grab info from the card, I'm lost on that part. I've also got to make the widget pretty. Right now it's a white box with 16 point text.

Factor Mystic posted:You mean gadget, right? Look at how the other CPU gadgets work. I don't know, but an educated guess says they load an ActiveX dll that loads WMI info, and there'd be a javascript component that loads that info and refreshes it. Thanks! I'll start there, I've looked at the tutorial for Gadgets it seems simple enough. With that aside, how the hell do I make it pretty?

So, I swore to god I had my ATI HDTV Wonder at some point working with Win7 but I had to reformat because I installed it incorrectly. Now, I can't seem to find the drivers for it anywhere? ATI website doesn't list them for Win7 but I swore to god I had it working at some point. Any ideas?

Ugh. How the hell can I fix this? I have an ATI HDTV Wonder, when I first threw in the card. Windows 7 automatically recognized the card and downloaded the appropriate driver. Now, for whatever reason it's messed up and it refuses to re-install. If manually install, and scroll down the list of drivers, it'll blue screen the whole computer. Installing the driver from ATI's website doesn't help, and it's for XP. Is there a way I can force the re-download of driver from Microsoft site? It's not doing it anymore.

revolther posted:Have you tried going into the device manager, and uninstalling/deleting the driver for the device? Once you do that and scan for hardware changes, you should get the typical "automatically find drivers online" or install your own option. Yea, comes up with the no drivers found.

How do you remove the default Windows 7 Log-on screen? I want to get rid of that whole picture and icons and resort the default menu with username and password. Googling for "change the way users log in and off" just keeps bring up the steps how to do this in Windows XP or Vista.

Am I mentally disabled or something? For the life of me, I cannot, for some reason create a bootable Win7 USB Flash Drive. I've tried mutliple tools, but no matter what my PC won't see the USB Drive. I was thinking it was something in the BIOS but booting of my 2GB Backtrack 4 USB Drive works just fine. My Intel based Mac doesn't see the drive either, but I'm not sure that's a good indicator of anything. I'm using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and a Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit Image from Digital River - X15-65805. What the hell am I missing? EDIT - And the image I used, is the same one I burnt to a DVD last week to install windows. Joy! EDIT - Just did a manual install, with the command-line to make a bootable drive. That worked. Should I be able to join a domain, if I am able to ping it and I have access to the admin account of the DC? I was working with some VMs this week, noticed when I pinged contoso.com it went to the wrong location. I modified my hosts file to the correct IP, now when I ping contoso.com it functions as intend but I still receive the same error that it can't contact a domain controller. What gives?

GreenNight posted:Probably due to DNS being hosed up, especially if your ping wasnt working correctly before, even with you manually doing it on the hosts file. It's working correctly, with that change. I guess the hosts file isn't forwarding everything? Though, I thought that's what it was suppose to do

madsushi posted:The ping isn't looking for "contoso.com", it's looking for like _mgdc._tcp.contoso.com, some DNS service record, and that service record is not in the host file. Huh? I really don't know how DNS / DC work that well, other than all I did was switch the VLAN that the client pc was on to the same VLAN of dc/sp/sql servers and once I put in the correct IP for the correct "contoso.com" in the hosts file it'd ping correctly but I still wasn't able to get the client pc to join the correct domain. What am I missing or is this something I really just ought to study? Or do I just not understand the purpose of the hosts file either?
