So, Yakitake Japan frequently jumps a series of progressively larger sharks. However, it has somehow topped itself yet again. http://www.onemanga.com/Yakitate_Japan/226/18/ That's right, the villain isn't an evil baker, it is a sentient, evil type of bread that wants to take over the world by having people eat it.

Are the scanlations really that far behind? Because I've known about that twist for a couple of years. Really too bad, because the manga certainly started out promising.

Nate RFB posted:Really too bad, because the manga certainly started out promising. Same here. I liked it at the start too but it took a decidedly sharp turn for the worse when it became one tournament arc after another and when Kawachi moved from being a rival to being the butt of jokes for no good reason at all. Plot AND character derailment of the worst kind.

I'm sort of curious as to how Kawachi is still supposed to be a comic relief character now that he is a crippled inhuman freak with no sign that he will ever recover. I just feel sorry for the almost everyone who had a reaction during the latest tournament. It is all well and good to say it was bread to die for, but those people all suffered fates worse than death.

Fact (1): Yakitate Japan was a fun, enjoyable series at the beginning. Fact (2): At some point it jumped over a huge grotesque shark, promptly sank deep into the water, and never came back up for air again. Question: When did (2) happen? Discuss.

So is anyone else reading the new thing from Makoto Raiku (Gash Bell)? Seems Raiku got a taste for drawing wildlife, since Doubutsu No Kuni (Animal Country) is full of the buggers, ranging from super toony to really realistic in style, with everything in between. Anime Destiny, the guys who got to the end of Gash first are scanning and have got the first chapter out, as well as ch 0, it's monthly and has only just started so they expect to be catching up soon. As for the manga itself, seems pretty good so far

New series for everyone to scope out. Sun-Ken Rock (IS a manga, read right to left) New Seinen series about a guy that falls in love with a girl in high-school, then said girl leaves for Korea to become a cop. He drops out and follows after her with less than stellar results. That is, until a local gang makes him their leader. Heroman Shounen series from BONES and Stan Lee. Simple plot, but I get a kick out of it. Boy has toy that turns into a big rear end-kicking robot, saves the day.

So has anyone else started reading Baby Steps? I don't know how I'd really classify it genre wise, but I think it fits into a shounen/comedy/romance type mold. Basically a kid who gets made fun of for his almost OCD perfectionism, immaculate note-taking skills, and "old man" personality (not perverted old man) decides he needs to start getting some exercise and ends up getting forced into a local tennis club by his mother. He then runs into his romantic interest and things go from there. There's only 8 chapters out so far, but it seems to be pretty good so far. It's definitely nothing like Prince of Tennis, as there aren't any retarded Dragonballesque moves or anything. Plus, for the first time in a long time I don't hate the main character.
