So, the new I Get Wet re-release came out today, did anybody get it? I wanted to get the limited edition but $25 is a tad bit too pricey for me at the moment.

I got the limited edition (it was a tossup between this and the vinyl). First CD I've bought in a few years, but I didn't mind paying a bit more for a signed copy after hearing how cool Andrew is to his fans. There's a promo code to save 10% so that makes it $18+5:
ARMY-CSQH-R8SS-FQJS (if this one doesn't work there's a few others on retailmenot.com)

It shipped out five days ago. I don't know if Amazon has spoiled me but 1-2 weeks for delivery seems absurd for $5 shipping on a jewel case. No tracking number either.

Okay, your wiener, it's disgusting how it's all gnarled, it's like you stuck it in a hornet's nest!

I just watched Andrew WK on Conan. Seeing Cherie Lily pretend to play the pizza guitar is kind of funny.

I met him at the Warped tour way back in 2003. He was really cool and he and his old guitarist(the dude in like the Hawaiian shirt and long dark hair/beard) talked with my friend and myself for around 30 minutes. We were the ones that had to leave, too. If we hadn't left he probably would have just hung out with us all day. I remember them both being really nice, especially since we were in Atlanta in the summer. I hope he hasn't really gone crazy.

Well, I finally listened to the second bonus disc and the source of the bonus live tracks is throwing me for a loop.

At first I thought it was just the audio from the movie cleaned up but on I Get Wet, there's a very distinct fan singing at the beginning that's from Live From The PureVolume House (04-12-2010) but the beginning and the little speech during the breakdown are something that hasn't been released at all.

Weird as poo poo how he decided to mix multiple eras of soundboards together for what we got on the bonus disc.

- edit I Get Wet (Live) is a mix of that PureVolume House show from 2010, the version from the movie and some unknown source I can't figure out. Possibly audio from two shows running on top of each other.

Pretty cool interview.

I had to have discussions with people who wanted the lead vocal sound to be more stripped down and naked. They said that more personality comes through that way, but I tried to make it very clear that it's not supposed to sound like an individual. As a listener, you're supposed to hear your voice in the song with a group of other voices and you're supposed to already imagine that you're playing the drums. I never wanted it to sound like a bunch of musicians or singers-- I wanted the sound of the songs to be like one instrument.

And why wasn't this posted in this thread?

Thanks! I love that quote about the philosophy behind the way the music sounds. I think it's a shame that 'I Get Wet' is being seen as some kind of peak for him. I much preferred 'The Wolf' and I wish he'd gone and topped that.

Andrew W.K. news, everybody! http://pitchfork.com/news/48689-and...tment-of-state/

Pitchfork posted:

A bunch of people in Bahrain are about to get some inspiring life lessons about partying: The U.S. Department of State has invited Andrew W.K. to the Middle East as a cultural ambassador. According to Andrew's website, he'll travel to Bahrain next month and visit elementary schools, the University of Bahrain, and music venues, "all while promoting partying and world peace."

and from his official website

quote:

The US Department of State in partnership with the US Embassy in Manama, Bahrain, has invited Andrew to visit the Middle East to promote partying and positive power. In the tradition of the American Jazz Ambassadors who traveled the world in the mid 20th century as examples of American culture and spirit, Andrew has been invited by the State Department to travel to the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain and share his music and partying with the people there.

That pizza guitar is absolutely glorious, too.

Aaaaand he's uninvited...

quote:

Rock star and self-styled party king Andrew W.K. set the Internet alight with chatter last week when he revealed that he was invited to the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain to participate in a cultural exchange. But Noel Clay, a spokesperson from the State Department, said via phone that the invitation has been rescinded.

Calling it “a mistake and not appropriate,” Clay said the program has been canceled.

The initial invitation sparked an outcry among human rights observers. The Bahraini monarchy has been roundly criticized for a sustained violent crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrations that began in 2011.

The government, led by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, is supported by Saudi Arabia, which is connected to the diminutive oil-rich island nation via causeway, and the United States, whose fifth fleet is stationed there.

Andrew W.K. (ne Wilkes-Krier), 43, is not known for being politically active — nor is the artist behind the album “Party Til You Puke,” and the songs “I Get Wet” and “Party Hard,” generally associated with conservative cultural norms that characterize the Middle East. His Twitter account routinely dispenses “party tips.” Last week he said on his website that he was “humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying.”

Last night, Wilkes-Krier tweeted that “partying is our best hope for world peace.”

Foggy Bottom apparently disagrees.

I went back to cmdistro to see if they were still selling the I Get Wet reissue, and it turns out they still have some of the limited edition ones for a discount:
http://www.cmdistro.com/Item/Andrew..._Edition-/42772

Works out to $21 shipped, and includes the two discs as well as a signed booklet, piece of Andrew's jeans, and an air freshener. Kind of surprising they didn't sell out of those since there were only 500. Really a neat little package for a good price.
