Goddamn Dragon's Teeth. I just checked, I don't think Cadillac '55 comes out until like September 4th or 5th. iTunes says that I can "preorder" the album, but I don't think I can hear any of the songs yet.

I think I just misread one of AWK's tweets then, because he said that his new album is "now available on iTunes" and I made a face. Anyway, hope to get the album soon

If you're not Andrew WK's friend on Facebook, you should be. He set his status a couple of days ago to: "Here's a mindset for today: Do exactly what YOU really want to do, and enjoy every second of it. That's how we party hard."

I got my CD in the mail today. On the front of it he autographed "KYLE IS A KING! LOVE, ANDREW". There's a few random stickers in the bag too and a handwritten letter that says "DEAR KYLE, I WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW EXCITED I AM TO HAVE YOU WITH ME ON THIS RIDE!!! PLEASE ENJOY THIS DRIVE AND ALWAYS PARTY HARD!!! LOVE, ANDREW WK" That made my day. As for the album, it's pretty good but I don't really know what specifically I can say about it, as I'm still on the first few tracks. If anyone cares enough to have a question that I could possibly answer I will. For anyone wondering, it's 39:37 long. edit - loud guitar out of nowhere in the last minute of the last song. He couldn't resist. Final Fart Buttball fucked around with this message at Aug 19, 2009 around 19:58 |

Pete Larson, one half of the band, was AWK's teacher in high school, and put out some of his early stuff on his record label, Bulb. I saw AWK play Pete's living room shortly before he started to get big. It was seriously fun. I have to admit that I got really bored with his schtick pretty quickly though. Thought he was terrible on the tour with The Locust.

55 Cadillac is so disappointing. It's mostly him spazzing out on a piano and not in a good way. The final song isn't bad though. Gundam Rock on the other hand is awesome. Think really cheesy 80s music Andrew WK style.

Let me preface what I'm about to ask by saying that I love AWK's attitude, life philosophy, and his music. It picks me and and helps me remember that there are people who just want to love each other and have fun. With that said, is anyone else scared for him? I feel like anyone that turns every negative experience into a positive one is somewhat escaping from the reality of their feelings. I'd imagine that his unstoppable positivity would deal poorly with feelings such as the loss of something loved very much, like a close family member or friend. Turning grief like that into something positive seems like an escape mechanism. This isn't to say he wouldn't feel sad if such a thing occurred, in fact I'm positive that he would, but can anyone truly keep such a demeanor up for a lifetime? I watched his interview on that local news station and he mentions that he just wants to make people happy because he's had a lot of pain in his own life. It makes me feel like he hates the pain so much that he artificially replaces it. The reason I feel like this is that I used to have his type of personality. For a number of years after being a child/teen I had an attitude of universal love, appreciation for everything living and not and made hundreds of friends in a short period of time because I treated each person as if they were my best friend and made them feel loved no matter who they were or what they'd done. I had decided to make my world the way I wish the rest of it was. This attitude came undone with a crash a few years later, however, after once again coming into contact with truly sad, sad things. The reality of the rest of the world caught up with me again and I had to deal with a lot of the things from my past that still hurt me, that I hadn't dealt with and that I had been escaping from with my super positive attitude. I had to admit to myself that I was living was a dream world. My understanding is that long term happiness requires a successful balance of emotions, but he seems to only think positively about everything. Is this healthy? I worry that his world will crash like mine had, but perhaps in a worse way, considering how deep into his dream world he's pushed himself. Oh, and there's a new Pitchfork interview: http://pitchfork.com/news/36449-and...-ways-to-party/
