Not sure if it was because of impeccable coincidental timing or Beejive just connected in a different way than Windows live Messenger because if it's the latter I could see it being worth 15 dollars. Beejive went down for me, oddly. So did my web browsing. Of course, I'm on a Storm Classic, so god only knows what voodoo it does to connect to RIM's servers.

My office got the Storm when it was first released. I never had the problems everybody else compains about. It was realtively fast, stable, and I actually liked the SurePress screen. (So much so that I find I'm missing it on the Torch!) Still, the benefits of the Torch are great. Physical slide-out keyboard, 10x the app memory, and OS6? I could never go back now.

The latest official release available is 6.0.0.337 However, I can confirm your findings for the language button. I work in French and English, so I actually use it, but after trying, I can't get rid of it either.

Of course, they stillahve to sit there and wait a half-hour for the Enterprise Actiation to go through, but eh. Minor problem in the end.

...And now I'm having an issue where I can't update one of my apps. BeBuzz has an update, but every time I try to grab it from App World, it tells me that the app "is not available for download from BlackBerry App World". Oddly enough, I was able to update other apps (Weather Eye) just fine. I've tried updating App World and running battery pulls, but no luck.

Crap. Our company PlayBook looks like it's dead. It won't recharge; hitting the power button gives a solid red LED followed by 5 yellow LED flashes. Everything I can find online tells me that if a hard reboot doesn't fix it, nothing I can do to it will. Guess we're going back to Best Buy for an exchange.

The included (wall) charger. This was a launch unit, and I suspect it's the first time any one of us has allowed the battery to drain to nothing. Other than this (rather large) blip, I've loved the damned thing. Bezel gestures are the best thing ever. I found it to have a much more intuitive interface than the iPad. I still haven't played with any Android tablests, so I can't comment on that, but if and when the app amount/availability situation improves, I'd call it a clear winner over Apple's product.

Coldforge posted:Did you update the OS to 1.0.5 or higher? Before that, Playbooks were unable to charge when the power is off, meaning if you let the charge fall to 0%, they were a brick. 1.0.5+ solved that, thankfully. Probably not. The last OS install that I know happened for sure was the Facebook/BBM/Video Chat upgrade. Then the sales team got a hold of it whaile I went on a 3-week business trip. We RMA'd it yesterday. They told us it'll take about 5-7 days (NOT business days, which surprised us!) for the replacement to come in.

Got the PlayBook back from the RMA - brand new one, too. RIM had a great turnaround time on this. Now, to convince the rest of the office that I'm the one that needs to hang onto it for "work purposes"...

Scaramouche posted:I think it depends on the BES settings, but probably not. BES is central to all of the enterprise security stuff on the blackberry, so circumventing the proxy set up probably isn't a good idea. I bet you could probably do it if the admin didn't set up his policies properly, but it would only last until he pushed a new policy/refreshed service books. JohnnyCanuck might know better, since he actually runs a real BES instead of a little 25 user BESx like me.

I'm thinking the bigger screen on the Torch would be nice, but it's the same res as the Bold, and the bold overall looks nicer to me. Has anyone used both or have an opinion one way or the other? The Bold (9900, I imagine?) has a great physical keyboard, a nice touchscreen, and is generally a better phone for dong a lot of messaging with. Plus, you can't deny that it's a fuckin' sexy beast of a phone. If you plan on doing more browsing and video-playing, go with the Torch, though. Note that either way, you'll want the very latest OS releases to deal with some issues that the launch OSes have.
