S3 is pretty strong. In my experience the gap from 2 -> 3 is the largest of the bunch. Lots of 2+s out there...

So odd that the promotion lists are this annual public event. Maybe if you make SFS, since that's like making partner at a law firm or MD at a bank, but it's odd to announce people going each step up the ladder.

I've completed most of my training now, and mostly have consultation days and "Refresher Communications" stuff, with a few other odds n ends, before my departure to post later this month. This is still kinda surreal to me, and it seems a little overwhelming. At least my wife is going with me, so I won't be all alone overseas!

I might be the first to TIC out as an 04... The language assessment at FSI is a unique process, using standards and protocols that only apply to FS language. As for S03 in Japanese, unless your keigo is solid, you won't get even a 3. I'm often mistaken on the phone as a native speaker and I only got 2+ in A-100. I doubt I could get that now since I've been out of Japan for 5+ years and studied Korean, which messed up my Japanese

When you were in the security clearance stage of the hiring process, did it tend to take longer to be contacted by an investigator for an interview or longer to have your clearance actually adjudicated? I am happy not to be on the register right now, but hope I can make it on sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving so I'd be well positioned for January or March.

It was quicker to have my face to face with the agent - I think it was less than a month from when I submitted my paperwork and 2-3 months later I was fully adjudicated. But that was a few years ago.

If any of you are at HST (or in DC and have the time), a bunch of us who served with Sean and Chris are gathering at the C street memorial wall at noon. Come by for hugs, flowers, tears, and funny stories.

First year yet that I haven't cried my eyes out and had to go home early, so that's a step forward I suppose...

My interview was almost exactly 30 days from when I submitted my paperwork. Then I was in investigations for another 60 days, and ajudication for about 10 months. I think the time to get an interview expanded greatly after the OPM breach (I was right before it). The Career Candidate Guide may provide some more answers. Almost 2 years after I applied I am starting Orientation on Monday

Does your year on the register start after your security clearance goes through and you actually get placed on the list, or does it begin soon after you pass the oral assessment?sociablegoldfinch posted:My interview was almost exactly 30 days from when I submitted my paperwork. The Career Candidate Guide may provide some more answers. Well, that's good and bad news for me. Assuming I pass my OA in a few months, knowing that I'll be able to continue to career climb within my passport agency is nice, so I can get my pay bumped a bit when I enter the FS. And it'll give time for my girlfriend to finish nursing school and/or become my fiancee/wife. But, a two year wait would certainly be difficult to plan for.

Good luck to all starting tomorrow. Got a few coworkers making the switch from CS to FS specialist who are in tomorrow's class, so y'all are in good hands. Separate question for the crowd, from a friend at DHS who passed the oral exam. She submitted her paperwork to DS two months ago and hasn't heard from them - no follow up or request for the in-person interview. She has emailed the woman whom she was working with to submit the paperwork but hasn't heard back. 60 days isn't normal, is it? I thought they had to follow up in 30 days?

I think the 30-day deadline is for candidates who pass the FSOA to submit their security package to DS. I didn't receive a request for an interview until a little over three months after submitting my complete package.
