On a single action revolver, the ejector is a separate piece since the cylinder doesn't come out of the frame. The ejector has to be off-center because the loading/unloading gate is off-center.

You can't fit an ejector rod on a short barreled single action revolver. The empty cases must be pushed out with a rod of some sort. The base pin can be utilized for this task if the entire cylinder is removed.
