Are there any DA/SA .22LR or .22WMR revolvers that aren't...

1- Cheap as poo poo (Taurus)
2- Retardedly expensive (S&W)

?

EDIT: I should clarify. I think a snubby DA/SA in one or both of those calibers would be titties beyond comparison, but Taurus is Taurus, and the only Smith I've seen is one with about a 4 1/2" barrel and it's like $650. There has to be a middle ground there.

This is basically what I'm thinking about. In fairness, I know Taurus is getting better with things, but I don't know about their rimfire revolvers at all.

Well, for ~$325 it might be worth giving it a try. I mean that's about the price of a good .22 auto. Go to a gun show and fondle a couple till you find one that seems solid and bring along some snap caps to try out the trigger. Don't be shocked if it feels ridiculously heavy and long, because it's a rimfire DA. They're like that.

Taurus revos seem to either have problems right off the bat or be pretty good without much in-between. The trick is picking through enough to find the good ones. I looked at 3 separate model 85s once at Gander Mtn and none of them were passable. But if you find a good one and don't like it, worst-case is you sell it to somebody else down the line.

All that said, I've never owned a Taurus, so...

Thanks. If the trigger does wind up heavy/mushy, is that something a gunsmith can clean up?

Picked this little guy up today for $260. Should be a great little gently caress-around gun.

Fun fact: Turns out this gun can also shoot the older .22 Winchester Rimfire (.22WRF), the first response to the .22LR, and effectively the grandfather to the .22WMR. It's a slightly shorter casing, and less powerful, but also ran $10/50rds, and that's a bullshit inflated gun show price. Hard to argue with that.

Nah, the show was in the Cleveland area (I'm in Toledo) and 2 friends wanted to go so it took the better part of the day. Should be able to in the next couple days. I'm curious to give this .22WRF round some work.

Yeah the trip out was miserable, but the show wasn't bad. 3 barns chock full of motherfuckers and it got pretty good once the rain cleared out. You were right about the DA trigger. Is this something a smith can clean up? Or just dryfire the poo poo out of it?

DJ, nice .22 Mag, I love the service grips. Did they come standard? The used one we've got has a pleasant DA pull; it's kind of short & would benefit from a set of Wolf springs, but it's smooth. The SA is crisp, just like my 85.

Yeah, which was a nice touch. The DA on this is pretty rough, but I expected that. SA is fantastic. I should be getting out today or tomorrow to put some rounds downrange.

I finally got to take the .22Mag wheelie out and it was a lot of fun. The red/orange front sight makes life pretty easy, and picking off targets from 50' didn't prove too hard. This was a buddy taking care of an old Budweiser can we'd hit a few other times.

Yeah, we made a smiley out of target stickers. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

The grip is very comfortable, and fit even some big sets of hands without a problem.

Far as ammo goes, there wasn't much of a noticeable difference between .22WMR and the old school .22WRF, which is nice because WRF is cheap as poo poo when you can find it.

Overall, very fun gun, locks up well, and while the DA is rough as hell right now, I'm not really concerned with firing it in DA so it all works out.

Leaning more towards DA, but I'm more than open to hear SA suggestions.

The Ruger Single Six and Bearcat are pretty fun SA shooters. I had the Colt Frontier Scout SA for quite a while and loved it.

DA/SA rimfire revolvers, as a rule, don't have great DA triggers until you really break them in, which you don't want to do by dryfire. S&W's .22LR DA/SA is really nice, but you're looking at $600+ for it.

Taurus' offerings in DA/SA revolvers are a lot better lately, and most can be found for under $350.

I have a couple basic 5-shot HK speed loaders for my Bodyguard, but I'm having a bitch of a time using them. The rounds line up fine in the cylinder and all and I can get the loader unlocked, but it seems to require quite a bit of wiggling to get all 5 rounds to drop out of the loader and into the cylinder.

Right now I drop the rounds from the loader as far into the cylinder as they'll go, then do the unlock-and-wiggle dance to get the 5 rounds out. Am I loving up somewhere?

Related, what do most people think of things like the Biachi Speed Strip?

I recently held some small carry-oriented revolvers and felt comfy with the size and ergos (on j-frames and the LCR) but kinda wanted the option of a SA trigger. What are some good price ranges for pre-lock ones and non-alloy types? Also, who makes good grips for j-frames that fill out the back nicely for people with gaint spider hands like me?

I like mine. It was $425 NIB. I'd imagine you could easily find used ones under $375.

Speed Strips aren't bad but obviously they take practice. Personally, I find it easier to load from belt pouch. I have one that holds six rounds in pairs; it's easy to pull out two rounds at a time and load them quickly. It lies fairly flat on the belt so it's more concealable than a speedloader pouch, and it maintains its orientation, unlike a Speed Strip which, depending on method of carry, can end up sitting upside-down or sideways in the pocket.

The problem you're having with the speeloaders - is it a matter of the speedloader not clearing the left grip panel? If that's it, try a different set of grips.

Wow, I never noticed that. it actually gets caught a little by S&Ws own panel.

What's the pouch you use?

EDIT: Something like this?

I'd imagine if your belt is already pretty firm against your body, this will hold just fine. 6 rounds of any typical revolver load aren't exactly heavy. VV
