Whaaaaat it was your mention of the Redhawk as an alternative to the Model 29 back whenever the hell it was you last made a revolver thread that turned me onto it in the first place.

Drake, there's a 4" Redhawk in .44mag & .45C.

sza/Ron, did your Mountain Guns have wood or rubber grips?

The first stuff I put through my Redhawk was some very light Magtech Cowboy Action .44spl... I knew the recoil would be less than .44mag, but it was like the difference between .22lr & .40S&W.

What secures it to the belt? I was thinking about getting one for my Redhawk, but if it just dangles there, no way.

Uncle Caveman
Jun 16, 2006

True, it just struck me as a bit halfassed. Though I suppose it makes it easier to accommodate different sizes of belts, and probably makes it easier to conceal.

Hmm

The LCR's trigger isn't especially bad, but I don't find it especially good, either.

Also reposting 'cause this Ruger is the BestŠ Ruger.

The trigger is so nice, I pull it, bullets disappear, it's science, physics is involved, something crazy, it's like magic or something.

Ruger Redhawks* are preferred over S&W revolvers for shooting hotter 44mag loads, correct?
The Redhawk & Super Redhawk have a longer cylinder than the S&W, for accepting ridiculous loads like these - they have a one-piece frame as well.

vvv IIRC early Redhawks were available as a monstrously-large frame .357, as you describe - Basically a scaled-up Security Six. It's one of my willing-to-overpay-on-GB-if-I-can-ever-find-one guns.

Huh - my response was a mix of genuine curiosity & a bit a facetiousness, I really don't know anything about the internals of the 1873 design. Marlin has leverguns (albeit modern designs) in .44mag, .45-70, .444, etc - is it terribly different than those?

Also, wheelgun thread re-rail:

Locus posted:

Oh duh, they make conversions.
: When metallic cartridges became common, there were some third-party conversions available for older percussion revolvers, usually in large-bore rimfire calibers. To compete with Colt's 1873, Remington updated the 1858 to a loading-gate design as the 1875.

Centerfire conversion cylinders exist today for repro percussion guns, most often in .45C & .38spl - though they often cost as much as the repro gun itself, so you're better off with something like the Uberti loading-gate model to begin with.
