What are people's opinions on showing the preview LCD? I recently had one girl who kept asking me, and I had to kind of shut her down and say "I'll tell you when it looks really bad, don't worry about what's going on over here." The only time I was really okay with showing was with one model who was trying something new and politely asked to check to see how it was looking from my end.

I don't really care if they ask, I actually show them the photos taken every 30-50 frames or so. They are usually very excited.

Usually I think of a shoot as a teamwork between a model and a photog. I don't think I am doing all the work or the directing, and neither does the subject. That way if I say or if the subject says "hey let's try this" we do it, if it does not work oh well.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but it would be amazing to me if anyone could keep all these rules and guidelines straight in their head during a shoot. Jesus.

I second this. That's why i shoot up to 1k frames and I feel happy if I get like 10 decent ones.

I am confused, is this a joke? I never envisioned nude portraits with a porn setting.

I'd like to say I chose the wardrobe and everything but frankly, the only thing I knew going into the shoot was that it was a female and I hopefully would have a light-toned wall. She was just a powerful person. Seriously, 6'2", can dunk the ball (for real, not just a slightly higher layup), holds state record in high jump, and just gets by on raw athleticism.

Before her first collegiate practice she didn't even know to shoot free throws with her fingertips. And she helped her HS win the state basketball tournament.

Thanks fellas

I would have used a stronger light, maybe a smaller umbrella, but everything else checks out :)

Completely unrelated to photography, but of all the things that have come into - and gone out of - style in my lifetime, I can't believe this has lasted as long as it has.

Sigh, I know, I only cared about his upper body, but he wanted to have the pants like that :(

Great pics though.

I agree with this, but I let it pass cause he could shoot :)

It works though. Maybe play with the white balance a bit, her skin does not look that well.

I think you did great given your circumstances. Take XTimmy's comments as learning suggestions for your next shoot.

I like to tell my clients to point the nose at the light and look at the camera from that angle, provided the light is nearby me.

You'll jump back in the saddle eventually. Regroup, recover and then report back! I had to take a break myself due to job issues: it sucks.

1) Take the photo in the morning, when you are the most depleted of water especially if you have abs.
2) Like the others said: position the light above the head or level with the head, downwards, between yourself and the camera. It will create contrasting shadows.
3) This light needs to be consistent if you are going for transformation pics
4) Wear workout clothes that are flattering for your body.
5) Give yourself a quick pump (high volume, low intensity) before the photo is taken (pushups, pullups, curls, etc)

Samples of light above the head:

If you want to show off your body and need photos, and you are in FL, I am available. Here is some of my work: http://www.luisx.com/Photoshoots/Fitness

Oh, I forgot to add: for some of my shoots I add baby oil/water/vegetable oil (lol) to add specular highlights (shiny). This might be overkill though.
