Starting on 9/11 this year I've 'season passed' Keith Olbermann on my tivo.

Also, Golden Girls.

I can't catch a break. I skipped ship on charter cable due to their excessive capping, chapter 11, and general crappiness to move to AT&T U-verse service. Now this company is doing crappy things:

http://status.4chan.org/

quote:

Sunday, July 26, 2009

It's come to our attention that AT&T is filtering/blocking img.4chan.org (/b/ & /r9k/) for many of their customers. There is no remedy at this time.

If you've been affected, I would advise you call or write customer support and corporate immediately.

by moot @ 6:41 PM

I don't use 4chan, don't really care about 4chan, but I really dislike my ISP deciding for me that it's not a site I should see. Here's what it looks like from here:

quote:

C:\Users\David>tracert img.4chan.org

Tracing route to img.4chan.org [207.126.64.182]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 1 ms <1 ms XX-XXX-XX-XX.lightspeed.sgnwmi.sbcglobal.net [XX.XXX.XX.XX]
2 29 ms 25 ms 22 ms XX-XXX-XX-XX.lightspeed.sgnwmi.sbcglobal.net [XX-XXX-XX-XX]
3 22 ms 23 ms 23 ms 76.213.24.4
4 * * * Request timed out.

So just outside of my neighborhood it filters it out to nothing. Thanks, AT&T! What sites will you decide aren't ok for me to view next?

Edit:

Now on techcrunch:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/2...ng-to-get-ugly/

Now on digg:
http://digg.com/tech_news/AT_T_blocks_4chan

Edit again - looks like they stopped blocking, and the news has hit more sites this morning:

I'm opposed to censorship in any forms when it's applied to adults. If I was with AT&T I'd consider leaving if they didn't reverse this policy after the imminent furore.

Regardless of /b's content, no ISP should get away with this.

An ISP really shouldn't have the right to block a site. If the site is that bad, it should be reported to the authorities and shut down that way. Blocking a site like that is shady as hell.

That could very well be the case. I'm sure AT&T care more about being sued and losing money to those very well-funded cultists than they do about censoring people. Oh, well, if anything I hope the guy who runs 4chan gets some publicity makes some money through banner ads to pay off his bills which were apparently threatening to bankrupt him.

This. I can understand not liking 4chan, but being ok with an ISP deciding to just block a website? That's really hosed up, and if I was an affected user, I would consider leaving AT&T.
