Ok so I have not yet owned my own bike and am looking to purchase one. I have heard and seen that the Ninja is a fairly good starter bike for someone none too confident in their riding ability. I want to buy something quite cheap that I can put some work into, as I feel like getting to know my bike mechanically would be a good way to start (since I have some time over the winter) before breaking it out and riding it. These are two prospective bikes I have been looking over and I was hoping I could get some thoughts from you guys: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/h...1937500436.html http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/w...1933968381.html In the first one, how complicated are the repairs that I'm looking at, and how expensive? (With and without fixing the second gear issue) And is the truck liner clear coat something I should be suspicious of? As in is he covering up rust/body damage? For number two, what do I do about it not having a title? I am definitely going to look the bikes over first-hand before making any decisions (hopefully beside someone more knowledgeable than myself), but I was just hoping to get a feel for whether or not this is even a good idea. edit: also, what is proper procedure for letting a bike sit in an unheated garage during a Minnesota winter? Drain fluids and clean it out, wait til it warms, then do all the necessary work? Jack Black fucked around with this message at Sep 9, 2010 around 18:36 |

So I laid down my bike on its left side and in the process bent the shifter. I thought I may have bent the shift rod or whatever the thin rod that its attached to is called so I just replaced the whole thing with new parts. So its all assembled again now and it shifts just fine, but if you shift up and lift your foot too high the shift lever will keep going up and up until it can literally flip back on itself. Is the little toothed shift adjustment nut (circular thing with the screw through it to hold it tight in place) stripped out or something?

Cool, thanks. I'll fiddle with it a bit more tonight.

Resource posted:I used my ninja 250 to commute on the highway, and compared to the drz it's a luxurious ride. I never came across a situation where I felt slow or under powered on the 250. I think the difference between a 10 mile commute and 100 mile commute is only going to be a comfort issue. From my experience a 250 is a perfectly capable highway commuting motorcycle. I would agree with this and everyone else saying that it can definitely commute on the highway, however, I would also add that you should be very sure that you have plenty of time when entering a lane of moving traffic from a complete stop. The ninja is not exactly a rocket off the line and to prevent putting yourself at risk to be rear-ended or just interrupting the flow of traffic, make sure you have some room to accelerate and match the speed of traffic.

Just bought a battery tender after leaving my key in the ON position overnight and draining my battery. Do i need to jump it first and ride it around before letting it charge on the tender? Cuz I installed the tender and it displays a flashing red light which means it can deliver a charge, but is not actually charging. A solid red light means it is charging and it has not been solid for the hour its been on the tender. It's a Battery Tender Junior if that matters.

I have it setup as pole > negative lead > ring lead from charger > lead screw. And same for positive lead, does that sound right? The ninja wiki said to do it in that order and so does the manual so is that sounding right? 3 hours later the charger is still a flashing red light instead of solid.

I'd say the new gen does look better, but the old gen isn't ugly. It's got a certain charm to it.
