Oh my! I got some libertarian in the wild. Which is pretty unique in Belgium, so here we go!

Some Idiot posted:

"People who have been using websites like couchsurfing.org react in disbelief at the initiative of the government. "

== > Disbelief ? But people, this is just the beginning. Or did you really think that you work for yourself? That you are a free man? No. You are a tax slave, and your only reason for existence is to pay off the state's debt. You are a source of energy for the parasite, which we call the state, nothing more. When you are drained, you may die. The Matrix, in real life.

Am I exaggerating? See for yourself. The money that you pay to your fellow slaves, what Austrians call "fiat money", is issued on the basis of government bonds. Government bonds, which are loans to be paid off with taxes. And taxes, which are legal extortions of your creativity and energy.

I can testify myself: for every 100 Euro that comes into my company as profit, I pay 33.99 euros to the state. That in itself is already a huge robbery, but well, if that was all, I would just occasionally commit some tax vandalism.

It goes much further than that: the 66 euro that remain, which are still in my company. But they must still come to my person. As long as my profit remains in my business, I can not even afford to offer you a beer.

And hey, there is the tax again. Either I get that money ( that I've earned, for which I have taken for risk, for which I have invested effort) from my company as a dividend, and then I pay 25 % tax on that 66.

Either that, or I get that money out of my business by giving myself a wage, but that comes down to the same thing: in the progressive tax brackets in Belgium, virtually everyone immediately gets to 25% .

Whatever I do, 16,5 euros from 66 euros which is extorted. That means I still hold 49.5 euros.

It goes even further than that.

Those 49.5 euros, which I have not yet spent.

No matter what I pay for with this money, ANOTHER 21 % tax, which is 10,4 euros.

I still have 39.1 euros.

You bet I'm still paying for required (and thus logically expensive!) Insurance the state imposes on me, excises on alcohol, tobacco and gasoline ( the latter through the perfidious cliquet system) , the many regulations and certifications that cause unnecessary costs , the fact that I have to pay for the administration of the theft that the state commits ( tax is collected by the entrepreneurs, who then pay it to the state , NOT by the state itself) , the accountant of the cumbersome government administration that is wasting MY time wasting (also a tax ) , municipal taxes and the many smaller exactions (eg county tax , solidarity tax , import duties on some products ) from the government , and last but not least , inflation , and I would dare to say that the tax rate may be estimated at 80 to 85 % in this country.

Now come and tell me that you are free? Now come and tell me that you are the one who decides what happens to your life? Not at all. Granted, you can decide whether you're going to watch "Familie" or "Thuis", and if you a Samsung user, or what iPhone you're going to buy (on credit, please!) But the most fundamental choices, you do not decide on. You definitely do NOT decide what your child learns at school . You definitely do NOT decide about who comes to live in your country. You do NOT decide which taxi you are going to take. You simply decide on nothing of any importance.

Or maybe you do! Fortunately, there are elections ! Those let you do decide. You can choose whether the next government will use a leather whip or a hemp one. But you will be beaten (with taxes), you definitely will. Democracy, which is the system whereby the tax slaves may choose who will rob them. They aren't owners of the tax plantations, though. Those are the banks.

No, you did not see me in a cynical period. It is simply the reality . If the government is already going to decide who gets to sleep in your home, then the totalitarian state is not much further away. So live on buying into the illusion that May 25 will change anything. I'll talk to you in November. And when winter comes, you'll also bankrupt yourself paying for fuel, and then we talk again about all the beautiful democratic principles.

I roughly translated that just now. What the hell can I even say to this. I mean poo poo, so much of this is so, so wrong. One guy in the comments replied that if he were to offer him a pint, it would also cost him 7% "schenkingsbelasting" (gift tax) and if he died within 3 years, he'd pay a 45% succession tax on that. (Conveniently forgetting that Belgian law makes a distinction between offering someone a pint and giving your heir your house to dodge taxes).

Is this a view into the mind of madness?

Fake edit: it's not a friend of mine so I won't touch the poop unless my other friends start commenting on it.

Many of them don't understand the difference between private property and personal property, which makes them vulnerable to capitalist rhetoric. They think that rather than pooling factories and land investments, leftists want everybody to share phones and underwear. Remember the anti-OWS stuff with labels for every corporate product in the frame?

They don't fully grasp the nature of capitalist systems. I'm trying to remember a decent succinct article about it, something along the lines of "Libertarians are just mediocre Capitalists" explaining their bizarre faith in unaccountable private companies, contrasted with their dogmatic opposition to somewhat-accountable public institutions. For them, every Bad Actor will be No True Scotsman until the State is dead.

Doesn't matter, because he would be paying his own wage. So either Liberty Inc. pays taxes on the additional profit it declares or the guy pays income tax on the wage he collects. The state gets its cut either way, because otherwise that would be a giant loophole ("Oh no dear government, we didn't achieve any profit, sadly, because we paid our sole investor and owner everything as wage. Unfortunately, you have so far decided not to raise income taxes, so he gets to keep all that money...").

Not even a friend, but yeah, if he doesn't want to have a corporation as a step between him and profits maybe he shouldn't have made a limited liability company. :downs:

Also rereading that he seems to be equating inflation with taxes. I don't even know how you get to that conclusion.

Yes but in his example Liberty Inc paid 34% tax on all 100 Euros, leaving it with 66, and then he paid 25% again when he takes that 66 in salary, leaving him with 49.5 so he could claim half "his" money went to the government.

If he paid himself 66 in salary, then his corporation should only have made 34 Euro in net profits and been taxed 34% of that, or 11 Euro. Right? If salaries couldn't be deducted from corporate taxable earnings, then a company could lose money and still owe taxes.

Ah, now I get it. That wouldn't make him avoid any and all taxes, though, which means it doesn't matter at all. Any Euro paid to the government may as well be a hundred because it is ripped from your hands, stolen from your wallet, extorted from your very flesh.

They actually do have some advantages ('adult stem cells' is a very broad word referring to a whole host of different multipotent cell lines that are interesting), and iPS cells are pretty exciting. But ESCs are still critically important for a lot of different reasons.

As an aside, they are a huge pain the rear end to culture. I'm pretty sure the moron who wrote up that screed has no idea what a cell culture is though.

There was actually never a full ban. One of George W Bush's better political calls, before 9/11, was to stop the creation of new lines of embryonic stem cells, but permit research on the currently existing ones. It was one of the cases where his administration actually did a good job of compromising between their base and the requirements of the research community.
