I'm looking for a mechanical switch keyboard. I was going to buy a FILCO but elitekeyboards doesn't seem to stock them anymore. I'd still like a FILCO, but I've also been looking into the Razer Black Widow and the Endurapro from Unicomp.

I'd get that except my computer vanity is too high. If there was a way to get rid of that logo...

Oops looks like I'll end up getting this: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=13258 I guess I'll live with this keyboard for a bit. Thanks for the help, tho.

Metroid48 posted:Does anyone know of a good portable USB keyboard, preferably with solid decent height keys and for less than ~$70? I'm looking to have something to use with Illustrator on a tablet PC. Since it's really just needed for the modifier keys and a few letters, the half keyboard form factor would be perfect if it weren't so expensive. Anything that has a realistic form factor and that is programmable works too. I did this same exact thing a while ago. I used a Wii Remote mapped with Joy2Key until I bought a wireless apple keyboard. If you already have a Wii Remote (or PSMove, I suppose) you could just get a BT adapter and a joypad mapping program.

I'd buy the Rosewill RK9000 in a heartbeat if the Rosewill logo didn't look like crap.

Elitekeyboards is taking preorders on their Leopold line coming out March 7th. I'm trying to decide between Brown and Blue. I type a lot and I sorta game, so I'm thinking blue. Yeah yeah?

ClosedBSD posted:So what are my options for sub-$100 tenkeyless/compact keyboards? the Happy Hacker Lite looks ok, but I think I'll get sick of the function key thing (which I probably won't use that often, but it definitely bothers me when I have to hit all sorts of buttons to hit f10 on my mac keyboard) The Leopold being released soon by EliteKeyboards is $99. My roommate just got a Noppoo Choco mini off eBay for $99, too. The Choco mini is super tiny. There's also the KBC Poker which is similar to teh Choco mini, but I think it looks nicer w/ less garish colors.

Is there any other place to order Keycaps for Leopold boards? Google does not help

If by "clicky" you mean Cherry Blues, White Alps, or Bucking Spring switches (please see this), then you won't find a keyboard for $50. I've seen the Adesso Mechanical Gaming Keyboard for $65 on Amazon. Razer's Black Widow goes for $80. If you want the built-in palm rest I've only heard of the Steel Series 7G, but that's $150. I suggest getting a mechanical keyboard and palm rest separately because mechanical keyboards are meant to last for *a long time*. The palm rest will at least wear-and-look-gross and more probably be unusable long before your keyswitches break down.

I've been checking this thread everyday since I ordered my Leopold. Why can't they just release them already?

Liquid - you're going to be looking at a keyboard with NKRO. Most NKROs are PS2 and ~$100, but I've seen the Noppoo Choco Mini with NKRO on USB. It works by pretending it's something like 3 keyboards... so... that's kind of weird. For the second part you're probably going to have to look up Topre or relearn how to type for your mechanical. Otherwise just use a scissorswitch (probably no NKRO). On a side note: what's the quietest wireless keyboard? I would prefer something small and sleek and w/ mouse control (IBM nipple ftw, but i'd do ball or pad if it kept the keyboard pretty small).

Has anyone heard of a mechanical keyboard actually wearing out? I haven't. Edit: Just got an email "EliteKeyboards Order #5134 Shipped" blowingupcasinos fucked around with this message at 17:28 on Mar 30, 2011 |

I just got my Leopold. Initially I wasn't impressed, and then I realized how fast I'm typing. I might just be excited, though. Anyone know how to change keycaps without a keycap tool? I bought a red escape key thinking that it'd be easy, but then it's not, so... now I'm stuck. Oops.

I freaking love my cherry brown Leopold. It is loving fantastic.

If I push down 2mm on my Leopold it actuates. Mechanical keyboards don't force you to bottom out to get a keypress. In fact, that's one of the reasons why people prefer them to chicklet style keyboards because your fingers don't actually punch anything besides a spring.

NihilCredo posted:Is there any reason why so few high-end keyboards have wrist/palm rests? I know I can grab a separate one from the store for 100 SEK, but since it's such a basic ergonomic feature I can't see why they are so seldom included. High-end keyboards are supposed to last much longer than a wrist/palm rest. Also, picky users like both the customization of multiple parts and the freedom of a smaller keyboard.

I searched for a trackball thread, and this was the best one I found for my question. I suppose if everyone here is going to be a discriminating with their keyboard, they might as well be as discriminating with their other gear. Anyways, I'm looking into getting a trackball bc I saw that arcade stick mod for Starcraft 2 that used a bunch of buttons and a trackball. I currently see that there are two different types of trackballs - finger trackballs and thumb trackballs. I am imagining playing games with the finger trackball, and it seems as though it'd be really hard to move the mouse, stop, and shoot with the thumb. But then I'm also imagining playing games with the thumb trackball, and it seems as though it'd be a strain on my thumb. And then I realize I'm playing with imaginary balls So if you guys have any experience with trackballs and what's good or bad that's awesome.

Two reacher questions: Does anyone here have experience with the Unicomp Endurapro keyboard? And how would that compare to an IBM/Lenovo trackpoint?

# ¿ Feb 6, 2013 22:07 |
Everything I've read about the endurapro is that it's not as good as IBM's track point. It makes me really sad.

Vier posted:Does anyone know of a site like this but for keyboards? For something as subjective as personal feel, it's kinda weird you're asking for a list like that. What exactly are you looking to quantify? Edit: I imagine you're probably going to have a hard time finding a site that'll be like that for keyboards because the criteria will be something like price, key type, wireless/wired, brand, and size. Not many stores will keep enough of a variety among all of those criteria. And there aren't enough nice keyboards readily available in general compared to GPUs. blowingupcasinos fucked around with this message at 16:03 on Mar 28, 2013 |

The CM Storms do actual NKRO over USB?

# ¿ Mar 30, 2013 07:17 |
NKRO has been pretty much essential for me prototyping and testing local multiplayer games, so, there's that.

I game with browns, but that's because I also program and type a lot. OC.net's guide will tell you Blacks and Reds are gaming switches, and Browns are kinda inbetweeners.
