Does anyone have any suggestions for a good pool/snooker game? I just find the game so soothing to play, I feel like it would be nice to be able to sit back and try and work out some angles and stuff after a stressful day at work.

Have you tried out Peggle? There's no pressure to keep going past a given try but it had the same addictive nature as Plants vs Zombies had for me.

Does anyone know of other strategy games like Panzer General? Games where you keep the same army for the entire single player campaign, and it gets continuously better through experience and upgrades. The branching campaign is a big plus too.

I know of a few (Crusaders: Thy Kingdome Come, Disciples, Elven Legacy, the rest of the Generals series) but is that all there are?

Battle for Wesnoth lets you transfer a few units between each mission iirc, and the units get better and can be promoted to new dudes. Hex based strategy game, and it's free.

Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen is a game about running through a forest and OH HEY A CYCLOPS so you climb it and stab it in the eye until it dies and resume your stroll and OH HEY A DRAKE so you climb on its chest to stab the big glowing spot on it and then suddenly find yourself a fair distance above the ground wondering what on earth possessed you to attempt to scale a monster that can quite clearly fly. What I'm saying is Dragon's Dogma is a good game.

For more funny and lighthearted take on evil check out Overlord 2(or 1, but 2 is better), it's basically Pikmin but you play as Sauron.

My impression from playing only a little bit of it a while ago was that you're accidentally benevolent-ish sauron. Like the halflings have something of yours so you go and beat them up to get your poo poo back and in the process accidentally save a human town iirc.

I've heard Planetside 2 is cool but I've found the learning curve to be a bit steep. There's a lot of stuff you have to figure out. Sometimes your gameplay will consist mostly of running to the front lines for 5 minutes only to die immediately. I feel like I would like the game if I could figure it out. APB has an easier learning curve in my opinion, and that game's hard as gently caress.

Playing in a coordinated group with other people will make the game much more enjoyable and you can ask whats going on and get advice etc. Its very much a squad/platoon orientated game and theres something super satisfying about being able to call in the location of a sunderer and watch half a dozen rockets hit it from several different angles, or take part in a coordinated tank pull with air support.

Not ArmA (cause i've played it and i have no friends to play online with)
Not Star Citizen (lol)
Not Microsoft Flight Sim (see next sentence)
Not a "here's a plane, there's a vast open world, go make your own game" type of game, i need clear goals and meaningful things to do or i lose interest almost instantly.

Other than that it can be pretty much anything i think.

war thunder? fly around on teams shooting at the other team, drop bombs on enemy tanks on the ground, crash into your allies on accident, tell people that nazis were war criminals and watch them blow the gently caress up at your, its a real fun game

Not Universe Sandbox and stuff like that, a actual game
Not painfully obvious classics like say Dungeon Keeper or whatever

What are some good games that have these distinct phases:
1. Adventuring or Gathering
2. Management or Crafting

Recettear and Rune Factory both are good examples of this. Basically, I like games that revolve around collecting loot and also processing it somehow in a meaningful way beyond just pushing the disenchant or sell button if its not an upgrade. Even stuff like PSO gets bonus points cause you can feed your mag loot.

My dream game would be like a fast paced RPG where every piece of loot can be used to craft stuff. So I could hoard loot for hours on end and then sit down, rub my hands maniacally, and play with it all.

the monster hunter games are third person over the shoulder action games that all revolve around a cycle of going out and hunting monsters, harvesting parts from them, using those parts to make new gear, and using that gear to go out hunting other monsters to make more gear

I have a hankering to play an RPG that has components of class/job switching, where you can level up you character(s) in different roles to get new abilities that you can then mix and match. Stuff like Final Fantasy V, FFTA, or even Fire Emblem Awakening I think has some of that (I never got far enough into it to experience it, I tried). It doesn't even have to be a traditional turn-based RPG, but that style of job ability customization is what I'm really looking for. Nintendo handheld (3DS/DS/GBA) would be my top choice of platform but I also have a Wii on-hand and will hopefully be getting a new laptop this spring.

dragons dogma? you can't bring all your skills with you when you change classes but there's a lot of vocation switching to pick up all the neat aguments from them and its a nice way to mix up the game play a bit.

After decades of the genre lying fallow, we have a glut of space 4x games. Some of them are really good! Stellaris and Endless Space 2 are among my favorite games of all time.

But I still find myself sometimes turning to Master of Orion 2. Its for the ship combat. If a 4x game has tactical combat, I'd like to bet between relatively small groups of units with well differentiated abilities and unique traits. I love Stellaris and ES2, but their combat falls flat. Its more based on building up massive numbers of ships and smashing them into each other. Also, ship design is based on rock/paper/scissors weapons and defenses and there isn't much in the way of special equipment or weapons, like weapons that disabled systems but don't damage the ship's hull, or special modules that let you move twice in a turn and then suffer a cooldown period.

Are there any 4x games here or on the horizon that have: relatively small encounters, weapons, defenses, and special modules that don't just provide output bonuses, and that are turn based? I guess a slow paced real time game could also work. Thanks!

have you looked at sword of the stars 1 (NOT 2)? it was a game built around its combat engine, i loved the hell out of it and got a lot of mileage out of it. haven't played in a long time so i cant specifically remember if there's much special equipment, but there's more than the standard rock paper scissors of just 3 types of weaponry. if you like managing your colonies' planetary construction and stuff it won't be the game for you, mind, the empire management stuff is quite barebones.

no problem :) liberation is a bit more... i guess reactive? if you assault a location then reinforcements can move in from other nearby ones, or they can be spawned from the nearest military installation to try and come and counter attack. they will also move to reclaim captured points some times, and if you wait too long before doing FOB hunts (basically randomly spawned base assault/destructions) then the ai forces will try and attack one of your FOBs (your static spawn points basically)

Not really looking for F2P MMOs that we can play together or competitive games where we play on the same team or whatever, I'm looking for games focused around 2-4 person co-op instead of massive playerbases. Genre doesn't matter too much.

warframe? it's f2p 2-4 person coop, apparently it gets grindy in the endgame but so far from what i've played its just a lot of running around as a techno-wizard space ninja shooting people with guns and chopping them up with a sword.
