![]() This thread is about The Smashing Pumpkins and Billy Corgan's zany twitter updates since he re-united the band in 2005. The current band members are Billy Corgan, Jeff Schroeder (guitar), Mike Byrne (drums), and Nicole Fiorentino (bass). Jimmy Chamberlain left the band in 2007, leaving Billy as the only original member. In July 2007, The Smashing Pumpkins released their first album since the breakup, called Zeitgeist. Later next year, Billy released an acoustic EP called American Gothic. In September 2009, Billy introduced plans for an ambitious 44-song "album" that will span 11 four-track EPs called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. In May and November of 2010, Volume 1 and 2 of Teargarden are released, titled Songs for a Sailor and The Solstice Bare, respectively. In April of 2011, Billy announced a new full length album part of the Teargarden collection, called Oceania (later released in June of 2012). He also announced plans to re-issue every previous Smashing Pumpkins album including bonus songs and live footage (he even kind of hinted at a possible release of the final Metro show in 2000 [maybe as a bonus DVD for the Machina re-issue??]). The re-issues will be available on both CD and Vinyl, which means we'll actually get a proper non-limited release of Machina II. As of December 2012, Gish, Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscariot, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness have been re-issued. --- NEWS ![]() ![]() The Mellon Collie re-issue is released today. It includes 64 bonus songs and spans 3 extra CDs. The CD box set also comes with a bonus DVD of a live show filmed at Brixton Academy, London (1996) & bonus performances from Rockpalast (1996). I don't mind his voice nowadays, but honestly I hope he is a little more creative with the lyrics. I don't know if I can handle any more "come on, come on, come on" in his songs. Zeitgeist had some potentially great sounding songs, but they ended up coming out muddy due to the production, I think. BANME.sh fucked around with this message at Sep 17, 2009 around 02:15 |

Arguments about setlists aside, billy still sounds good live, so I hope they (he) does another tour around western Canada before too long. Some of these songs might be salvageable in a live setting. Actually song for a son is already awesome live

Remember when Korn had multiple covers for their album in 1999? It's hardly a new idea. And I can probably guarantee Korn wasn't the first either.

I'd add Song for a Son and Gossamer to that list, although Gossamer could be trimmed a bit without losing much impact. The lid covering the 12- inch box is a metallic/foil wallpaper motif, with a 1970's design by The Flavor Paper Co. And despite part one being available in only ultra limited quantities, it's still in stock from May.

I was just thinking about the final Metro show, and how it was never released to the disappointment of many fans. I was gonna try sending Billy a message on twitter about it, but did some googling first, as I thought he probably gets asked about it a lot. Turns out he spoke about the final show on facebook just a few days ago, as it was the 10th anniversary: quote:Firstly, he recalled how the band prepared for the 4-hour long set, with nearly 40 songs: ”First thing that comes to mind is that we only had about 6 days to prepare the about 14 or so extra songs that we added to try to make the show both historic and memorable. normally this much work in such a short time would have been met with resistance, but everyone was in good spirits to have the 11 months of touring finally over.” source: http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2010/...ins-show-metro/ BANME.sh fucked around with this message at Dec 9, 2010 around 23:31 |

The video for An Ode to No One from the Greatest Hits DVD is still one of my favorite live SP videos, and I always thought the "wtf" face James makes at the camera (when Billy goes off script a bit) was funny... in a playful way. Well I like to think that its true. That the girl grew up enamored with the band since she appeared on a fairly successful album cover. Was inspired to learn bass guitar, and when the chance arose to audition for the band, she went for it. Then I read this from wikipedia: quote:Shortly after the Pumpkins reformed in 2007, Corgan posted a message to the band's blog saying that they were "[l]ooking for girls from Siamese Dream album cover... As you all know, they were quite young when the photo was taken. They are not conjoined anymore, as far as we know." The band's intentions for the search were never made clear.[27] In February, 2011 Billy Corgan announced via Twitter that not only had one of the girls been found, she was none other than current bassist for the Pumpkins, Nicole Fiorentino. According to Corgan, "Just found out the weirdest news: our bass player Nicole just admitted she is one of the girls on the cover of Siamese Dream"[28] It also mentions that the album booklet was composed of family members and strangers So....

This is amazing news. SP has always had a loud, fuzzed-out sound so I don't really see a remaster being a negative thing. I am super excited about owning Mellon Collie on vinyl without paying $200-300. That, and Machina I and II in it's originally intended order will be really sweet to hear. Also a tiny hint of finally seeing the Metro show
