Just saw the info about how they have some 19yr old kid as their new drummer. Thought what the gently caress is this poo poo? Then I found his YouTube channel with this video. There's no replacing Jimmy, but that kid can drum. I like 1:05 the best, and if he's triple hitting that bass drum with a single pedal I'm even more impressed.

I've only been playing for two years and I can do that, it's really not that impressive. The beginning was really cool though, it's from Mars Volta from the amazing Thomas Pridgen.

You are so awesome!

E: By the way Adore is their best album and never gets any discussion.

I agree Adore is great. Not my favorite but great. Funny you say that because I had read a magazine interview with Corgan just after Adore came out. They asked him about Jimmy being gone and their change of sound etc. He said "If someone comes up to me years from now and says 'Adore was the best thing you ever did' I'll die". He knew it'd be a huge risk, but it was what he wanted to put out and of course he has that "I'm gonna do whatever the hell I want" attitude.

They used Twilight from Adore on the last episode of Flash Forward I watched. It would have been perfect for a musical montage, but they turned the volume down for some dialogue about 1min in and you never really get to hear the rest. I forgot how awesome that song was and it made me want to listen to Adore again.

Wall o nonsense about time

Why should time matter at all? That's about the dumbest argument I've ever heard of for cutting an album.

Its one thing to cut down to a -72 minute mark because changing from a single to double album makes a huge difference in packaging costs, marketing, tracklists, etc. But to cut a 70min cd down to 55min just because that's what a lot of other people do is asinine. Not to mention Billy tends to do things the way he wants to do them, for better or worse.

I know this isn't the catchall SP thread really, but I happened to look at one of those celebrity gossip magazines (my female coworker brought it in and I was really bored ok!) and apparently Jessica Simpson is all about Billy Corgan now? She was all into him at some party, they disappeared together, and now the "gossip" is all abuzz about how "into to him" she is, while Billy says "she's cool, but I'm really into my music right now".

I just found the whole thing to be hilarious. Who knows, maybe it will be good for him. Hell I know if I was loving Jessica Simpson I'd be writing songs all drat day, albeit simplistic ones with the repeating phrase "life is amazing, I'm loving Jessica Simpson".

Call me late to dinner but I just heard about Tinted Windows. Is the album any good?

Been following Billy on Twitter for a while, mainly for laughs because its like watching a train wreck. Apparently Billy is a Chemtrail conspiracy nut now too. I'm just trying to figure out what point to imagine the band died in a fiery explosion and ignore everything that happened after that point.

It sucks because you watch that x.y.u. video and see just how much fun they had together.

Edit: VVV the youtube video posted that's either this page or end of last page.

Been following his twitter for a couple months and I think he's been off the deep end for a while now. I think this one is a crack at goons! He just forgot the neck part.

Where is the indie outrage over Arcade Fire's 8 different album covers??C'mon u boys with beards! Where is the indignation!?LOL oh the irony

The funny part is he never retweets things so you get this one sided rant and have no clue what he's responding to.

Hey, SP/hipster fans, I do GET it. Bands do things to SELL records. Fans have the option to BUY them if they want. If your lame f'n record label isn't going to support the release of your record by giving you ZERO money you have to find ways of marketing. Stick to hating music/artists because of the endless compromises and indignities they must endure and foster a climate of lame music. Enjoy! Different rules for different games...it's all the same. Don't buy appearances, don't buy anything. Start your own band! LOL

So he's supporting the multi cover band just because they did a multi version zeitgeist, complains about the label, then goes into some weird tangent about not compromising... Or something.

Give the Silverspun Pickups a try. I happened to come across a couple of their songs in totally random places and really enjoyed them. The first thing that popped into my head was 'this sounds like the pumpkins' albeit with a more modern edge. I haven't checked out either of their albums so hopefully the handful of songs I've heard aren't their only good tracks.

Recommend me music! is sort of a derail I guess but I figured I'd throw it in here since to me they have a good 'pumpkin-y feel' to them.

I bet Kurt Cobain would have been even more intolerable had he reached Billy's age.

As mopey maybe, but Kurt just seemed chill as gently caress about everything. He was 90s indifference personified. Hell, he had the exact same issues with fame and all the bs but instead of becoming a whiny bitch he just killed himself. Not sure which one is worse...

Decent review in the LA Times about their recent gig in LA, should give you a vague idea of some of the songs you'd hear. I haven't heard Hummer live in quite a while. Writer says he puts on a pretty good show as a frontman basically soloing his band. I suppose if they come close I'll give em a go.

Billy tweeted that the Pisces remaster will come with a full dvd of a 1988 public access performance, outtakes and bad starts all unedited. Haven't bought any of the remasters but I may have to grab that one.

Still listening to Oceania now and again trying to decide if I really like it or not. I could still name B-sides on Mellon Collie and sing a few bars but the last few albums have been so forgettable to me. I guess it's just a mix of quality and my age.

Also, I always love a good twitter fight. I was hoping to make the drive up to the new tea house to watch Billy play but couldn't make it. I'm not sure who this guy is or what exactly they're talking about, but I'm guessing my lack of semi-pro wrestling knowledge is the problem. on the SP cover band line though, ouch.
