I've done an internship at the Max-Planck-Institut in Martinsried. It's a nice place with nice people. (They have to work very hard though.) And they have a soccer field! Martinsried is right next to Munich. Rent will only be slightly/unnoticably lower than in the city. Expect to pay from 400 to 500 € for an apartment. If you're lucky you can get one for 300 €. The money you'll earn as a research technician will be fine for a single person household. Even us poor Phd students at the university can do okay with around 1000 €. You cannot support another person with this money though. Stipendium = scholarship They are hard to get. You have to either be very poor or very, very good. There are other scholarships, but they give you like enough money for buying one book. And there are ones for specific purposes. There are treaties regarding tickets between many European countries. You might actually get a nice letter asking for money soon. And you won't be able to talk yourself out of this situation.

How is the public transportation system in Kiel and Wilhelmshaven? I maybe wouldn't even buy a used car if public transportation is good. In Munich for example public transportation is fantastic an a car is unnecessary.

Getting a seat is not that problematic. You have to come in the morning and wait 2 to 3 hours. Coming on a weekday will increase your chances. If you only want to drink 2 or 3 liters of beer you can also show up in the afternoon and use the reserved seats for a few hours. You will have to leave around 5 to 7 pm though, if you do this. Oh, and if you want to reserve a seat, it's probably too late now.

It's hard. My cousin from abroad had to learn German for six months daily before being able to pass the test. Some need a year. So, I think it depends. How good is your German right now? You will probably be able to take some non-language courses in your second semester over here though.

The Asamkirche is a really, really pretty church. If the day is sunny you can still visit the Englischer Garten and have a good time, but it's best to visit in spring and summer. I recommend a tour through Schloss Nymphenburg. Visiting it for two or three hours is fine. You could certainly spend more time, but it's only worth a day of your time if you really like porcellain. Oh, and there are English language audio guides, so you can do everything at your own pace.

I know nothing about your country except that you make bad cars and we kicked your rear end, but: how expensive would it be to stay in one of your country's cool cities for a few days while I look at cool stuff like a retarded tourist. 2) In Munich you can live comfortably 30 to 50 € for a bed and 25 to 35 € for food per day. If you want it cheaper you can probably half that amount.

Ziir posted:Oktoberfest is extremely overrated and I don't see why people would spend hundreds of dollars flying to Germany just to go. Plus I got forcefully thrown out of an outdoor seating area outside of a tent for some unexplained reason so gently caress Oktoberfest. No seriously, I finished drinking my first liter of beer and left the area to go piss, walked back into the area and then some douchebag security guy grabbed me by the arm and threw me out. I called a friend to come tell the rear end in a top hat that my poo poo (jacket and beer) was inside and that I just went to take a piss and was gone for maybe two minutes. He got thrown out too. Well, everyone living in Munich for more than a few years agrees with you.

Heise, Tagesschau and Tagesspiegel are not really anarchic news sites. Haha. People are aware of it. It gets pretty widely reported. gently caress the Union. And it's nothing special. The Union always want to give the police more power. They want to use our military on German ground outside of state of defense, too. Like to fight against criminals. How is Merkel the German version of Bush? Ok, I'll try to give the general opinion of the German moderates on the different political parties: SPD - not as competent as Union in economic questions, for worker rights, want to rise welfare spending on the expense of the rich CDU - the economically more competent of the big parties, pro business/employers, pro Christian values, they want to restrict welfare spending Those two descriptions sound pretty different, but many people view them as being the same. And this is pretty accurate, since both parties are very moderate and try to cater to all parts of the population. CSU - basically the same as the CDU, but arrogant and full of self-entitlement, more radically Christian Greens - loving hippies, that want to turn Germany into a nation of immigrants, but they're right with their environmental goals, economic competence equals zero FDP - vote for them if you're an rich rear end in a top hat, also if you're a poor moron, you can basically buy them Linke - bunch of dissatisfied SPD members and former members of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany of the GDR, so vote for them if you want the GDR back or want money without having to work Some smaller parties: NPD - nazis (Nationaldemocratic Party of Germany) DVU - nazis (German People's Union) Republikaner - nazis (Heh, they have the same name as the Republicans.) Bayernpartei - separatists (Bavarians' Party) Piratenpartei - nerds (Pirate Party) DIE PARTEI - they want power and money, parody party that you could actually vote for in some elections (The Party) APPD - insane, but you could also vote for them in several big elections (Anarchistic Pogo Party of Germany) I can write about a few more bizarre small parties if someone wants to hear about them. If you ask members of the CDU, they would say yes. But if you would ask members of the CSU, they would strongly disagree. They do not compete with each other, but they still don't always have the same opinions and goals. The CDU practically has to deal with a permanent coalition partner they can't get rid of in this regard.
