Isn't the case with Kishimoto simply that she died when committing suicide and was copied to Gantz, but was then resuscitated, so her original existed too? I may have missed what originally happened to them, but should we expect a reappearance from the vampires? It always kinda sucked that they never wore the suits, would have been interesting to see how ridiculous they'd be with them on.

As much as I want this book to come to a clean ending, I really can't wait for life to end miserably for everyone. I mean, if they defeat the giant robots, if they defeat the giant alien blobs of grey, then what's left? The non-combatant aliens to either leave or get slaughtered by Gantz-ers. I'm going to guess they will not get to leave. Even if all that happens, then what? Behold Earth's new Gantz-enabled overlords? Everyone will die a horrible death, this is the only way this book can end and I can't wait.

Yes, that's the case with Kishimoto, the original is the one that's still alive and not part of Gantz. The fighter has been dead for...man, I think 5 years now? As for the Vamps, they're done and over with as a threat to the Gantzers. Most of them got wiped out by Izumi and the remainders have better things to worry about now than their grudge. Last time we saw them was during the worldwide Italy mission and they're likely busy running around trying to stay alive right now.

It's actually about 6 or 7 months in continuity. It's explicitly stated that Nishi was dead for 6 months - he got killed during the Tanaka Seijin mission and came back in time for the Osaka mission. The time frame between the Buddha Statue mission and the Katastrophe is probably roughly the same.

I was referring to reader-time, since Kishimoto died on the second real mission and that was a looong time ago yet readers still want her. I guesss DD cups have that effect on horny nerds. Seven months in-story sounds about right, but that may be a little low--it's been about a year and some since Kurano started Gantzing. Probably closer to a full year in continuity since Kishimoto died. Kial posted:Am I the only one that has been following the series for years but has no clue what is going on currently? You may want to also refresh the chapters on GANTZ's origins since Sebastian (who is possibly "God") will likely be playing a role before it all ends too.

I just went back and started re-reading the whole thing, and god drat I forgot how good this manga used to be. The temple fight (the third one starting around chapter 60) is awesome, and there is a huge amount of character development, along with all the soul crushing brutality. Plus it has that sniper dude, who is pretty much the most badass character in the series. Shame he didn't last long.

Speaking of the Italy mission, with our prior knowledge of the monsters actually being alien immigrants/invaders, doesn't that mean the Italy aliens would have been successful? We didn't see the end, but they were a hell of a lot stronger than the giant moomins that the gantzers are facing now.

Cool chapter. Anyone else think the artwork has improved since a few chapters ago? I think people may be right saying that the earthquake somehow affected Oku's method of working and he's only getting back on his feet now. Cherry taking the bomb out of his head - that would have been very useful earlier say in Osaka when they were getting pinned against the boundary. His master even died because of it. Oh well I guess.

Translated: http://www.mangareader.net/gantz/363/2 Well, this is not going to end well for Kuruno if he thinks Detente is what anyone on any sides wants. Also, Nishi: He's a dead man (boy). Kuruno's probably gonna have to kill him now. If THAT is the final battle, I can honestly say I didn't expect that and I doubt anyone else did either. Well at least we're heading towards a conclusion that makes sense for the story, in that instead of killing the monsters, we're going to save them, hopefuly bringing everything to a close because frankly this manga is long due for putting out to pasture. It also works that Kurono will be taking down the most amoral, jaded, repeat-gamer on his team to do it. The main thing though, is that this manga needs to end. If this small glimpse turns out to be a red herring I'll probably just quit altogether.

Maybe it's just me but I don't really feel sympathetic towards the aliens at all. They just showed up, hosed up most of the world, treated the rest as food and because they have human tendencies and have innocent children it's just all supposed to stop right there? I just don't feel like they really made much of a case yet... .

Agreed. Sure, humans eat lesser lifeforms too, but we don't usually consume them live while they sob and plead for their lives, nor do we take the kids out hunting for pure torturous sport. I'm with Cherry, those kids and grandmas he killed were probably on their way to some sadistic activity or another.
|
| # ? May 19, 2012 11:43 |

I think that's the "in war, innocents on both sides suffer" idea Oku is finishing the story with. Yeah, it's easy to see the aliens as complete and total monsters from the get-go because they attacked us and did horrible things, but back on their homeland (the ship is basically a country) they have innocent civilians as well. Also note that outside of Fra (the lady alien), none of the aliens have even bothered to learn that humans could talk. So we're just squeaking little rats to them. Oku deliberately started showing the aliens being pure sadistic monsters, but then used Tae and Cherry's adventures to show that the non-soldiers are just living their lives and don't even think about what their government/armies are doing. ...which is kind of what you, me, and everyone else here does every single day with our own government's atrocities. I've said it before; Oku's about as subtle as a hammer about his metaphors. cooldude2.0 posted:Agreed. Sure, humans eat lesser lifeforms too, but we don't usually consume them live while they sob and plead for their lives, nor do we take the kids out hunting for pure torturous sport. We kind of DO do that, man...there's plenty of organizations out there that promote hunting as a sport AND consider it a family event. As I said above, the aliens can't/don't care to understand human language, so it's really no different than some rifle-wounded 4-legged lower life form bleating for its life as we empty a clip into its head. At least some of them know that humans are sentient. There was that propaganda clip they broadcast in that one chapter saying that the hunters were "terrorists" and the aliens come in peace.
