Listen up, Maggots! I want you to kill every demoman within a 50 mile radius! That's what Sun Tzu would have wanted, and he wrote the book on war!

Go here to get it 25% cheaper!

By now you should know that Left 4 Dead 2 is a p. awesome zombie survival FPS from Valve, the same guys who purchased the rights to games such as CounterStrike and DoD and claimed them as their own beautiful unique-like-a-snowflake creations. By now most should know or have an idea of what L4D2 is, the fact you have 4-player co-op or 8-player versus, in which it is a 4vs4 match of survivors against infected.

Left 4 Dead 2 moves the setting to Savannah, Georgia and tracks 4 new survivors on their trek to New Orleans to be rescued by military helicopter.

    The Survivors
  • Coach

Coach has a big heart, a healthy appetite, and a wicked swing with a chainsaw. After a knee injury ended his career as a defensive lineman in college, Coach salvaged his Physical Education degree (barely) and landed a job teaching health at the local high school in his hometown of Savannah.

Working as a defensive coordinator for the freshmen team might not have been the best path to a pro coaching career; but it’s come in pretty handy in guiding a group of Survivors to safety. Coach has watched his beloved hometown get ravaged by infected—now it’s time to deliver his own brand of Southern hospitality.

  • Nick, the gambler.

A lifetime of drifting from city to city, finding back-alley card games and trying to stay out of jail has taught Nick two valuable lessons: Don’t trust anyone, and look out for number one.

He’d come down to Savannah looking for some gullible fish on the riverboat gambling cruise circuit. Instead he found a city about to be engulfed by infection. Now he finds himself forced together with three complete strangers in a fragile alliance that goes against every instinct he lives by. But he’s going to have to learn to trust them if he wants to survive.

  • Ellis, the mechanic.

Ellis is a mechanic with a love of life, a firm belief in his own immortality, and the ability to treat any setback as a fun dare to impress his friends. Born and raised in Savannah, Ellis divvies up his time working at the local garage, hanging out with his buddies, and dropping by for Sunday dinners with Mom—why’d anybody want to live anywhere else?

Then the zombies had to go and spoil it. Now Ellis is looking for new things to occupy his time, and finding plenty. It turns out the zombie apocalypse is one big dare, and there’s no shortage of crazy stuff he can try to impress his new buddies.

  • Rochelle, the producer

As a low-level associate producer for a big-name news station, Rochelle's job mostly consisted of lugging cables and fetching coffee. But when the outbreak hit and staff started calling in sick, Rochelle got her break: producing a segment from Savannah about the evacuation center located there. She was still setting up the cameras when her big story became a war zone.

But that doesn't mean she's letting go of her dream job yet. Surviving a zombie apocalypse is just something else she can use her wits and drive to produce the hell out of.

    The Infected
  • Boomer, a fat jolly infected that can puke on survivors. Sounds horrifying in itself, but once puked on, regular infected will home in on you, ignoring everything else. Upon death, the boomer explodes, coating everyone near by in bile/puke anyway.

  • The Hunter can leap tall buildings in a single bound, or wall jump up even higher. He can pounce survivors, rendering them helpless them while he rips chunks out of their torso. A friend will need to shoot or melee him off.

  • The Smoker has a long tongue that he can use to grab and pull survivors in a specific direction. Survivors that are pulled are considered helpless and will need to be rescued by a friend. He doesn't deal nearly as much damage as the hunter does.

  • The Tank is the first boss infected you'll likely encounter. Hes huge, mean, and capable of throwing cars/concrete chunks at you. Lighting him on fire in coop will piss him off and make him faster, but he'll die due to the damage hes taking. In versus, he slows down and becomes a pushover.

  • The Witch is the other boss infected. She sits down and cries. Thats all she does. Really. Just don't shoot her, shine your flashlight on her, walk near her, or use your microphone in the general vicinity. She incapacitates on the first hit for difficulties easy - advanced plus versus. On expert, she kills. In L4D2, the witch has learned to walk around, but only at certain times of the day. Witches are also attracted to the smell of sugar, which explains their abundance in Hard Rain.

    New in L4D2
  • The Charger looks like a cross between a tank and a regular infected, sporting one giant arm. Hes capable of, well, charging into survivors scattering them like bowling pins. He'll grab whoever he hits first and slam them into the ground repeatedly. They'll need to be rescued. He was revealed at E3 2009 along with Left 4 Dead 2 itself.

  • The Spitter comes equipped with an infected version of the molotov. She can lob a spit into an area and damage the survivors that stand in it. The damage ramps up for every second the survivor stands in the area. She was revealed at Comiccon.

  • The Jockey is a hunter-ish infected that leaps on a survivors back and controls their movement while he rips them apart. Chet says the survivors actually have some form of movement while being controlled, but its around 25/75 in favor of the Jockey. You can't fight his movements, but you can influence the direction. He was revealed at PAX.

    The Uncommon-Common
These guys will spawn with the regular infected, but they've got special properties.

  • The Hazmat Infected, these are regular infected that turned while wearing protective suits. They're immune to fire in all its forms.
    -Campaign: Dead Center

  • (The Passing Uncommon Common)

  • Clown Infected, their squeaky shoes attract zombies! The zombies follow behind the clown. Theres an achievement for lighting a clown on fire whos leading 15 or more zombies.
    -Campaign: Dark Carnival

  • The Mudmen, who run on all fours, taking cover in the Louisiana swamps. When they hit you, your vision gets obscured.
    -Campaign: Swamp Fever

  • Construction Worker, they wear earmuffs so pipe bombs aren't effective against them.
    -Campaign: Hard Rain

  • Riot Infected. They wear bulletproof armor on their chests, and can only be killed from behind.
    -Campaign: The Parish

The Short List of New poo poo

    Weapons
  • Melee weapons: Axe, Baseball Bat, Chainsaw (finite ammo), Cricket Bat, Crowbar, ELECTRIC GUITAR, Frying Pan, Katana, Machete, Nightstick. All melee weapons will occupy the pistol slot if you pick one up.

  • Laser Sight - Gives you better accuracy with weapons, and you can still use your flashlight.

These are in addition to the old returning guns. They will be randomized so it might not be the same gun each time.

  • Pistols: P220 (dualwield with a glock), Desert Eagle (Magnum, cannot be dual wielded)

  • T1: Mossberg 500 Mariner (shotgun), Silenced Mac-10

  • T2: SPAS-12 (shotgun), L4D1 hunting rifle, G3 (hunting rifle), SCAR-L (assault rifle), AK-47 (assault rifle)

  • Special: M79 grenade launcher: occupies primary slot.

  • Throwables: Pipebomb, Molotov, Bile Bomb: Summons a horde to attack whatever gets covered in bile, including infected.

  • Static: Minigun, Machinegun: Slower rate of fire, more accurate, and a finite ammo source.

    Ammo
  • Incendiary Rounds - Ammo stash powerup that gives you one clip of bullets that sets anything you shoot on fire.

  • Explosive Rounds - Ammo stash powerup that gives you one clip of bullets that EXPLODE common infected in one hit and knocks down anything near by.

    Pills
  • Adrenaline - A needle-like device that looks similar to an EpiPen, is stored in the pill bottle slot (and replaces pills if picked up). Taking adrenaline gives the Survivor 25 temporary HP and a boost that allows him to melee bash without fatigue and to avoid being slowed down by Common Infected attacks. Adrenaline also appears to change players’ vision when taken, blurring the edges of the screen.

    Medkit
  • Defibrillator - Used for a chance to revive dead teammates.

  • Incendiary Ammo Pack - Allows a survivor to drop an incendiary ammo stash. Its one use per survivor and lights all infected on fire when used. Common will die in one hit, specials will only be temporarily lit on fire.

  • Fragmentation Ammo Pack - Allows a survivor to drop an fragmentation ammo stash. Its one use per survivor, explodes common infected, and causes specials (including the tank and witch) to stumble.

    Infected Additions
  • 3 new special infected and 5 uncommon-common join the old cast for a total of 14 types of infected, 7 of them are playable.

  • Wandering Witches - Witches will now walk around during the daylight, so cr0wning is the best option rather than avoidance and a later, unexpected encounter.

  • More varied regular infected. Theres also some degree of dismemberment to zombies.

    General Additions
  • Sunlight.

  • New gamemode, Scavenge - The survivors need to gather 16 gastanks and refill a generator, the infected need to stop them. 4 vs. 4 gamemode.

  • 5 new campaigns to tell the story of the four new survivors, from Savannah all the way to New Orleans.

  • Improved Director. The director will now also manipulate maps depending on how well/poorly you are doing and change pathing options to make it easier or more difficult.

  • Panic events can now be Gauntlet events or Scavenge events. In a gauntlet event, you need to race to stop something from summoning hordes of zombies. A scavenge event is the new gamemode in panic event form.

  • Realism Mode: "Take Portal for example: We had our best internal players who could blow through that game in about 30 minutes, but within weeks of launching it we had people on YouTube beating [the testers'] times by 10 minutes or more. Realism is for those players." - Doug Lombardi

  • Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns will be playable in Left 4 Dead 2. All custom content created for Left 4 Dead 1 will work in Left 4 Dead 2. Some stuffs gotta get changed though, it'd be better to fix and recompile for l4d2.

  • The game will be full priced.

    New Content

The Passing: The first game add-on for L4D2 brings the original Left 4 Dead Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360. Targeted for release in early spring, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

There is a quick and elegant solution to this though, and it is to add the command "mm_dedicated_search_maxping 100" into your autoexec.cfg file. This way, the average ping of the server you find from lobby will be less than 100, or whatever you want it to be.

With tired eyes, tired minds, tired souls, we slept.

The 360 demo is already available for those who reserved it at gamestop.

I played briefly this morning before work and one thing is for sure, the blast damage has been TOTALLY redone. The sniper rifle was blowing holes in zombies left and right.

Also, the new shotgun completely destroys.

edit: whoops. Did you change the icon or something? I thought it said 360. No threadshitting intended.

There was a ghetto Versus mode work around but Valve patched it out within a week. Here's hoping the demo won't have a "Preorder now!" movie attached to the end every time you finish.

Apparently fan-made campaigns will work with a small amount of jiggling by the mapmaker, so I assume someone'll figure out a way to convert the L4D1 campaigns to L4D2.

Valve are trying to figure out a way to do it themselves that'll work for both PC and Xbox 360, so who knows what'll happen.

ANIME SUCKS HARD

Valve has been waffling on official content being playable because on the one hand they just should (before the community gets to it), but on the other it would "split the community" further. What I'm curious about is how bad the new SI would unbalance some maps.

Subscribing to this thread in the hopes that 300 page rants of "URGH BOYCOTT" are out of people's systems. Also fishing for any info about hosting your own demo server, maybe there's a way to cvar versus gameplay in.

It gets unlocked for me at 2PM but I can't play until 7

Also, posting our steam group a big bigger:
